It's worth noting that in the late โ€™60s there was a Mego Jet 1:64-scale โ€™65 Corvair coupe, but it's extremely rare and expensive, and I don't have one. I did take it upon myself to flesh out the late model Corvair offerings, with Monza sedan (โ€™65) and convertible (โ€™67), Corsa coupe (1966), and Fitch Sprint (1965) variations. #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale
This new "Vairstrike" follows in the footsteps of two earlier Hot Wheels Corvairs. Customs are never my favorites, but for many, many years, the "Vairy 8" (released in 2002) was the only accessible 1:64-scale 1965-69 Corvair out there. Then a few years ago, HW put out a very nice premium Yenko Stinger casting; this new one goes much wilder than the "Vairy 8," with a dash of Stinger styling in the partially blanked rear windows. #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale
Grocery store had restocked Hot Wheels. They didn't have the new one I'm looking for (Cadillac Celestiq), but they did have this guy, and I feel obligated to buy anything Corvair-adjacent, no matter how ridiculous. #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale

This has to be close to a record for how quickly I've been able to complete an outer body shell, having just started in three dimensions yesterday. There is a catch, thoughโ€”like last time, the sliding door will be added later, towards the end of the entire modeling process. Nevertheless, a quick bit of work, and while it is essentially a big box, there's more complexity in the details than you'd expect! #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale
Got a good start into three dimensions today. #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale
Rearranged the collection into alphabetical/chronological order while sorting in the latest arrivals. I have a new storage/display solution in the works, which is good because at 103 cars, I have officially outgrown this cubby in this IKEA-hacked bookcase by one car. I got them all to fit because one row is now all Saabs, which are narrow enough that I could fit in 11 cars instead of 10! #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale #3dPrinted
1:64-scale car no. 109: took a pause after finishing my last one to get my Volvos (nos. 104-107) off to print, but now I'm back on the family bus beat with this big boy. I remember going with my dad a few times to check out EuroVans when they first came out. He really liked them, but I suspect they were out of our price range, given that they cost about 50% more than the Saturn he ended up getting in โ€™94... #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale
Okay, *now* it's done. Kind of surprising what a difference adding in the track for the door makes in making this thing look right. #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale
