Al momento non ci sono elementi per ritenere che il gesto compiuto sabato pomeriggio da Salim El Koudri sia una conseguenza della patologia - disturbo schizoide di personalità - per cui era stato in cura al Centro per la salute mentale di Castelfranco Emilia. Ad affermarlo è stato il gip Donatella Pianezzi nell'ordinanza con cui oggi ha convalidato l'arresto del 31enne che in pieno centro a Modena ha travolto con l'auto i passanti per poi scagliarsi contro di loro col coltello. Per la Gip non ci sono per il momento nemmeno elementi per ritenere che El Koudri fosse incapace di intendere e volere quando ha commesso il fatto. Anzi, Salim El Koudri guidava nella direzione più adatta per colpire il maggior numero di persone possibile. Infatti, come ricostruito, inizialmente punta il marciapiede del lato destro di Via Emilia, dove colpisce i primi pedoni e una ciclista, e poi si rimette in carreggiata. Poi, poiché le persone riescono a schivarlo, punta direttamente il marciapiede sul lato sinistro che era in quel momento molto affollato.
Dopo la folle corsa e lo schianto, El Koudri ha tentato anche di rimettere in moto la Citroen C3, ma non è chiaro se per colpire ancora o fuggire. L'intento è stato comunque quello di allontanarsi, prendendo anche una via laterale per fare perdere presumibilmente le sue tracce. Di qui il rischio concreto di fuga che, a causa anche dei legami stretti della famiglia col Marocco, si sarebbe potuta concretizzare con un vero espatrio.
Il nucleo familiare di Salim infatti, ricostruisce la giudice per le indagini preliminari, ha mantenuto in questi anni stretti i contatti coi familiari nel Paese nordafricano e lo stesso Salim avrebbe buoni rapporti coi cugini che abitano lì, suoi coetanei. Un altro elemento a supporto di questa tesi è che il 31enne, quando lavorava, metteva da parte denaro per le vacanze in Marocco. Due anni fa tutti insieme l'ultimo viaggio lì. In Italia Salim non aveva un lavoro stabile, non ha una compagna e una famiglia propria, a parte genitori e sorella, quindi se lasciato libero si può ipotizzare una fuga per il Marocco, dove avrebbe una rete di supporto in grado di coprirlo

At the moment, there are no elements to consider that the gesture made on Saturday afternoon by Salim El Koudri was a consequence of the pathology – schizoid personality disorder – for which he had been treated at the Mental Health Center of Castelfranco Emilia. This was stated by Judge Donatella Pianezzi in the order in which she today validated the arrest of the 31-year-old who, in the heart of Modena, ran over pedestrians with his car before attacking them with a knife. According to the Judge, there are currently no elements to consider that El Koudri was unable to understand and will when he committed the act. Indeed, Salim El Koudri was driving in the most suitable direction to hit as many people as possible. Specifically, as reconstructed, he initially aims the right-hand side pavement of Via Emilia, where he hits the first pedestrians and a cyclist, and then gets back on track. Then, as people manage to avoid him, he directly aims the left-hand side pavement, which was very crowded at that time.
After the frantic chase and the crash, El Koudri also attempted to restart the Citroen C3, but it is unclear whether to continue attacking or to flee. The intention was nevertheless to move away, taking a side street to presumably lose his trail. This posed a concrete risk of flight that, due also to the close ties of the family with Morocco, could have materialized with a true emigration.
The family nucleus of Salim, reconstructs the investigating judge, has maintained close contacts with the family in the North African country in recent years, and the same Salim had good relations with his cousins who live there, his peers. Another element in support of this thesis is that the 31-year-old, when he worked, saved money for holidays in Morocco. Two years ago, they all went on the last trip there together. In Italy, Salim did not have a stable job, he had no partner and his own family, apart from his parents and sister, so if released, a flight to Morocco could be hypothesized, where he would have a support network capable of covering him.
