My #Ubiquiti #DreamMachine died today, a little over 5 years old, make me sad a £330 purchase is now junk, but my DR plan kicked in nicely with the Cloud #backup #restore of the Network Application to my #CloudKey NVR working perfectly. Dug out a small #Unifi switch and AP and fired up the ISP router and I was back in business. Now what do I replace it with, thinking I should separate out the router and AP now and maybe look to future proof with something 2.5Gbps capable, just in case!

@staustellsimon nothing broken here, but I still have a UniFi Security Gateway. Switching to Zen fibre in a couple of weeks so wondering if I should replace or remove and just use the Fritz!Box router they’ve sent.

So I’m interested in what you decide!

@jmb I’m on the fence about sticking with a Dream Machine or making a router myself that’s for sure…. But also just getting a Cloud Gateway of some sort
@staustellsimon I currently have ISP router -> USG -> LAN (UniFi AP Lite and Ethernet on one subnet). I feel like I should get rid of one level of NAT really!
@jmb I’m debating having a Gateway then a AP7 (and use a spare 5 port switch I had) or staying with an all in one like the Express 7 or Dream Router 7.
@jmb think I’m going off having my own DIY router
@staustellsimon Yeah, I vaguely thought about a pfsense or some wrt variant, but I don’t think I want to bother.

@staustellsimon woah that sucks it died after only 5 years.

I went through similar thinking recently with my Unifi kit after my USG died.

I decided to keep everything separate so I went for a UCG Ultra, but the UCG Fibre does 2.5G.

Ok, the Network Application isn't separate, but I think it's a reasonable compromise.

@yayamatt yeah a little sad it didn’t last longer but I’ve been eyeing up what I’d replace with, just so many ways to build out, I like the all in one as neat but annoying losing it all in one go
