After upgrading my #Android phone a while back, I decided to take the old phone (Pixel 6) and backup all my photos, videos etc.

As I am copying them to my computer I was having a hard time finding where the voice recordings were located.

I take a LOT of voice recordings & haven't backed them up in years.

After doing a bit of reading it sounds like #Google sealed them off and you have to have root access unless you share them online.

WTF?!

#PocketPC would never do this to me.

Hypothetically you can access and download the voice recording from https://recorder.google.com/ if you have chosen to whore out even more of your data to a corporation.

I will find another way. Worst case scenario I will play the recordings one by one into another microphone and make a recording of the recording.

This is absolutely fucking ridiculous!!!

They easily let me copy my videos & my pictures & my downloads, all accessible when I plug into a computer... but not my voice recordings!?!?!

Recorder

The Recorder app available only on Pixel brings the power of search and AI to your audio recordings. You can record meetings, lectures, jam sessions — anything you want to save and listen to later. Recorder automatically transcribes speech and tags sounds like music, applause, and more, so you can search your recordings to quickly find the part you’re looking for. All Recorder functionality can run on-device, or choose to back-up your audio files and revisit online.

@Judeau looking at the recorder app on my Pixel 6, I can select one recording by holding down on it, then go to the three dots at the top right and click select all. Then press the three dots top right again and click share>audio or transcript file>m4a at which point I can share the files through the usual sharing options. Maybe you could share through local send to your PC? I only have a couple recordings though so I may be missing something.
@Judeau I completely agree that it should just be a file copyable when viewing the phones storage through USB though

@finisek Yeah. It's such a strange decision. I have no idea why they would restrict it from being accessed on a PC while seemingly EVERYTHING else is easily accessible.

It was a wakeup call for me though.

I will be finding a different app to use and will certainly be making heavier use of the voice recorder on my #PocketPC

Thanks again!

@finisek I had not used the old phone in several months. There were a bunch an updates, including a system update, so i went ahead and did those.

Before the update I'm pretty sure it only gave me the option to back up the files to drive/ the website or Notebook LM.

I just finished updating everything and I do now see an option to share locally!

Thank you!

I probably should have updated everything in the first place before going on a rant. 😂
