Today on "can't make this shit up":
I've been in a German hospital for a few weeks. For every meal we get to pick from three options. My hospital roomie picked "fish and chips".

It must be a shit post. Lorenz chips are way too expensive for hospital fare.

No, pain is in France

That being said Pommes Frittes spice-mix is a bit more than just paprika, it's paprika, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. Some times with some sellerie or cayenne pepper as well.
@tashatheinnkeeper @valcurious
For Germans it is standard
@valcurious as others have said, paprika flavoured crisps are the default flavour in Germany.
*German* --- *English*
Chips --- Crisps
Pommes --- French fries
Steakhousepommes (or similar) --- Chips, but with salt and paprika seasoning
Kartoffelecken --- Potato wedges
And somebody in the catering department of the hospital was having a laugh or being creatively mischievous. 😃
@valcurious I mean, obviously hilarious, but maybe better than trying to serve actual fries in a hospital setting. I know chips are supposed to be somewhat soggy, but lukewarm and soggy is usually terrible.
But the one thing i am wondering is: are these actual mushy peas? Because that would be a German first for me.
@valcurious @halfbyte my guess would have been polenta, but happy to be corrected. Though if it tasted of peas I'd say it looks more like pease pudding (mashed peas) than mushy peas.
As to the chips (crisps) in England in shops they always seem to be offered as part of a ''meal deal" (sandwich, can of sugary fizzy pop and crisps) . So an absolute no-goer for me.
Thank you! I was wondering what that might be.
