Whatever you do, don't use #CashApp. Their support will simply insist you repeat the steps that aren't working, won't fix it, and when you don't want to be their customer anymore, they will not allow you to close your account. Even after filing formal complaints, they will refuse to close your account or delete your info. Their business model is to just keep customers without consent. They are absolutely untrustworthy!

Please boost far and wide, warn others!

So the details...
There was a point at which #CashApp no longer worked on my phone. It was a surprise.
The app isn't even available for my current phone, and attempting to run it on my old phone results in them "not being able to prove the account is mine" and thus, can't log in. So, I wanted to close my account and delete my info. Can't, there's a balance. A nickle.
I logged in via web browser. You can't withdrawal or send a nickle.
I attempted to lose the nickle by buying and selling a few cents of bitcoin till it ate up my nickle. That stopped working at a penny. So there is now a penny left in the account. You cannot withdrawal or send a penny.
There MIGHT be $1.33 in "stocks", I can't quite tell. You can't get there on the web browser. Since I can't log in to the app, I can't get there in the app either.
I have told them this. I have told them I'm willing to forfeit whatever is left in there.
Nope, they refuse.
So to recap...
Can't send or withdarawl a nickle, and certainly not a penny.
I can't quite tell if I have a buck and change in "stocks" becauise I can't get there on the web, and can't run the app.
Not allowed to forfeit.
And since it's not $0.00, can't close it.
Since I can't close it, they won't delete my information.
Support refuses to do anything about any of this.
Oh hillarious. Now it's stuck as a penny of bitcoin.

@hellomiakoda I've never used the app, so I may be totally talking out of my ass here and I hope you forgive me if I'm completely off base.

How about adding enough money to send, and then sending the entire balance to someone? Maybe a friend or charity or whatevs.

Obvs the possible "stocks" might cause an issue, but at least the cash balance would be zeroed out. Maybe?

@hellomiakoda
Again? Why does this sort of thing keep happening to you?
@hellomiakoda damn, i already use cashapp :<

@hellomiakoda

Not a perfect solution, but you could talk to your bank to block any transactions from their company.

A friend had to do something similar when the pstaff at Planet Fitness gym told him he had to cancel his membership online and online they said he had to do it in person. So he just blocked the membership withdrawal directly.

@hellomiakoda I’ve taken to complaining to the Better Business Bureau, which usually gets a better (if minimal) response

@hellomiakoda

The same is true if you have a developer account on discord (and deleted the server for which the developer account was created.)

@hellomiakoda with me it is the "Authenticator" I tried and tried to get it to function - without result. Just shortly stopped myself from throwing my Handy against the wall. Thank you for your care and warning 🤗
@hellomiakoda I used to do my taxes through them, and I'm fairly sure doing that is what caused a massive audit of my (simple) taxes and held back my return for almost a year. Plus, yeah, their owners are garbage.

@hellomiakoda
The unable to verify thing is exceptionally annoying because it steps you through all the verification points and clearly verifies you but then says it doesn't... Clearly it doesn't like me phone but it doesn't tell me that or even why (I suspect because I use a custom ROM).

I haven't tried to delete it because I've used the web to send some payments but interestingly you can only send payments to contacts known to you from the web -- you can't send a payment to a new contact unless you are using the app.

I'm with your assessment... Don't get involved with this company if you haven't already.
