Excited to announce that the @EUCommission has updated it's follow buttons on the website footer!
What's that first platform there? Could that be #Mastodon?
And where did the link to #X go?
All the posts and comments here on Mastodon calling for this, trust me we read them!

@hpod16 @EUCommission yaas awesome work!! πŸ”₯
@Gina
Yessss time to crack the champagne!
@hpod16 @EUCommission That's great! I hope this will inspire more instances to finally follow suit!
@hpod16 Not sure why people favour screenshots over properly referring to sources & evidence:

European Commission
@anuytstt @hpod16 They work for the commission, spelled out the change, provided a picture of the change, then spelled it out again in the alt text. That’s plenty for me.
@ClickyMcTicker @hpod16 Yes. I'm just saying, given the state of the internet, it's best to verify things before believing and boosting / propagating them. So it's best to make the things you say, easy to verify.
@anuytstt @hpod16 If you link a website, what the people will see will change over time. Also, what people should look at is not always clear. In this case it's the footer. There are people who don't even know what a footer is. Screenshots help to focus and maintain what people should look at.

@hpod16 @EUCommission

this a small, amazing thing !

European Commission

@hpod16: definitely a step in the right direction.

One question though – does this mean that European Commission will rescind its presence on X over time? Or to put this more widely, what are EC's plans regarding X at all?

@oaj @hpod16 I can’t speak for the EC, but the EFF’s statement on the matter should be the golden standard for governments and certain civil rights organizations. It should be deprioritized and not promoted, as opposed to fully severing the connection. As fascist as the platform is, their voice should reach the people already on it without encouraging more.

@haayman
Noted!

The European Commission website is a massive web domain with hundreds, maybe thousands of sub-sites. Some might get overlooked or lag behind in the change.
On every site where you see this, you can give feedback under the site directly:

@hpod16 @EUCommission awesome! Thanks for hearing us! 🀩
@hpod16 @EUCommission This is really great!!! Thanks!

@hpod16 @EUCommission excellent, Hannah! We already said that you rock, right?

@leavex
I'm so happy to be able to share this news!
I've been reading all your comments about this forever and I couldn't say anything even though I knew it was coming (it's a HUGE website, these things take time...)
@hpod16 We are aware of that, and we appreciate the effort that people like you put into it. Keep up the good work!
@hpod16 it’s amazing news - congratulations!
@leavex @hpod16 @EUCommission well done Hannah! Thanks for listening and acting. How can we work towards doing this across all EU websites? What do you think is the best way of achieving that?

@ElaineActivism
Mhhhhhh

I don’t speak for Parliament or council; and neither of them are on mastodon (yet)

A start would be to convince these other institutions to go there, also by showing how successful the European Commission is here,
And following the smaller EU accounts from the courts:

And
@EUauditors

@hpod16 @Curia @EUauditors

🀩 Thank you!

... and followed.

@hpod16 @EUCommission thank you!! At the opening event of the digital commons EDIC I also nagged about this a bit, glad that you managed to make it happen! https://berthub.eu/articles/posts/keynote-opening-digital-commons-edic-eu/ - I’ll add a note!
Keynote opening Digital Commons EDIC: Moving beyond the Digital Uncommons - Bert Hubert's writings

Last Thursday, 11th of December, saw the launch of the new Digital Commons European Digital Infrastructure Consortium. In attendance were delegations from the launching member states (and the observers). Also present were the many forefathers (and mothers) of this initiative. Of particular note, the launch also included demonstrations of LaSuite software from France, as well as the OpenDesk software from Germany. The Dutch government showcased their amalgamated suite MijnBureau, which joins parts of the German and French initiatives.

@bert_hubert

I'm not sure what's going on in this image, but I love the visual impact of the balloons! What was the idea?

@hpod16 they launched the balloons to celebrate the 'opening' of the digital commons EDIC, and we did that on a video call where we all joined, using the Visio LaSuite solution. It was rather sweet.

@hpod16

Thank you, @EUCommission - the Mastodon icon is now on https://commission.europa.eu

That's a real and concrete step.

Two weeks ago, on your fediverse anniversary, several of us pointed out it was missing.

You listened.
Genuinely appreciated.

@hpod16 @EUCommission finally, very positive news indeed.
@hpod16 @EUCommission Good to see.
And good that all our comments are read.

@hpod16 @EUCommission excellent news, a small step and a huge signal.

And what a day you chose to do it on... coincidence?

@hpod16 Great work! I know how slow big institutions can be ... so double congrats! 🍾

@EUCommission

@hpod16 @EUCommission YEY..!!! πŸ‘ πŸ‘ Well done!! πŸ‘   πŸ˜‰

@hpod16 @EUCommission

But still on meta-socials, so how big of a deal is leaving just X really...

@hpod16 How unexpected! Really good news!

@EUCommission

@hpod16 @EUCommission Massive props in deserved scale.

Next, changing educational systems to teach ranged solves, instead of restrictive, single solve mindsets.

@hpod16

Okay, that's really cool! Now, can we get more of this? We're Europeans, we should be using our own social media to communicate... Every one of those other media links is Amerikaanse...

_and_ COOL, longest journey starts with a single step... πŸŽ‰

@EUCommission

@hpod16

@EUCommission congrats, but still two more to delete.

@hpod16 @EUCommission Great news! I hope/guess the next step will be closing the X account πŸ™‚
@hpod16 @EUCommission It took some nagging but yaaaaay!

@hpod16 wow how cool! It's already great that Mastodon got on there, but removing X makes it even greater
