Well, here's where I get off, Evernote.

I've used you for over 14 years but I'm not paying £154.90 to be able to have more than 1000 notes and AI features that I don't want to use.

I'm heading for Joplin, synching with stuff I've already got.

UPDATE: Now looking like Obsidian.

While I say Joplin in the original post, I am open to a few others to try out, so long as they're not US big tech.

I've been trying out Joplin with a few of my Evernote notebooks, and the bigger issue for me is web clipping on mobile at the moment. I tend to clip things like recipe web pages, because they don't stick around forever.

@emkingma take a look at #tiddlywiki. It's totally customisable, although not entirely out of the box. However, there's a great community that's really reactive to questions and is friendly. It's actively maintained and a new version has just been released. I hope this is interesting. See https://tiddlywiki.com/
