Dennoch sei hier stellvertretend für alle Handschriften gefragt: Geht es eigentlich nur mir so, dass das r so rein gar nichts mit einem r zu tun hat? Erinnert eher an ein ⊓ oder Π.

@koeberlin @rainerklute ›Leidenschaftslos/neutral‹ bin ich eher der in Deutschland verbreiteten Form gegenüber. Diejenige aus der französischen Ausgangsschrift benutze ich seit einigen Jahren ohne Verständigungsprobleme in meiner Handschrift, weil sie gut ins Schriftbild passt, in meinen Augen grafisch ansprechender ist und besser anschließt (s. @fhardwig & @rosaliewagner in den englischen Antworten).

@koeberlin @rainerklute @fhardwig @rosaliewagner Musste nachsehen und bin etwas überrascht, dass es dieses /r im deutschsprachigen Raum nur in österreichische Schulschriften geschafft hat. Kann das sein?
 
Das lateinische Pendant in Rudolf Kochs Offenbacher Schrift hat es auch, aber dieses Modell ist offenbar nie in Schulen gelehrt worden — mit Ausnahme der Kurrent in der Überarbeitung Koch-Hermersdorf-Schrift, 1950–1955(?) als Zweitschrift in Bayern.

@rainerklute French educators are very attached to their traditional cursive style for a lot of different reasons. We can talk about localisation for the form of certain letters. It can pose issues for foreigners when learning to read French handwriting though. But it’s very recognizable, and some letters still generate debates even among French teachers!

@rosaliewagner I‘m totally relaxed with the r although I prefer different shapes. But I always wonder why it’s so far away from the „normal“ r.

@rainerklute connection to other letters. I saw several handwritten examples from the 19th century where the r looks like this when followed by a letter, but looks more like the roman form at the end of words.

@rosaliewagner @rainerklute Exactly that: it originated as a medial form. This distinction – cursive form in the middle of words, more roman form at the end – was also made in some script typefaces. Here’s a sample for Écriture compacte from an 1870s specimen by Deberny et Cie.

@rainerklute ich kenne das auch als ganz normales französisches Schreibschrift r. Meine Neffen schreiben das auch auf Urlaubskarten so. Von daher habe ich kein Störgefühl, eher Appetit auf 🥐 & ☕️
