These go a way back. One morning while walking along Ocean Beach at sunrise, I saw the US coast guard having some fun. I am guessing that they were practicing manoeuvres in big wave weather.

@quaap When I first saw them, I thought they were nuts, but, I guess, once I realized they were a coast guard boat, they were training and were having fun. :)

@CStamp Yes, they train in the surf, there is a surfman certification in the CG, a very elite group who train at National Motor Lifeboat Schools. There's one up here in Ilwaco WA at the mouth of the Columbia River.

@[email protected] kind of. Yes they are coasties, but they come from a different unit than mine. That’s a 47’ lifeboat, based out of sta golden gate. They can do heavy weather stuff and have a lot of fun. My unit is based out of SFO and we have 32’ port security boats. So… same different?
