Ok fellow #coffee geeks and friends- after 10+ years I think we need a new electric burr grinder. Our trusty Cuisinart seems to have given it up.

What are your suggestions? Must have ceramic burrs, disassemble for cleaning, grind espresso to coarse.

@bud_t My coffee guru is @Cristobalm I bet he has suggestions when he logs on next
@bud_t Baratza Encore. Only way to fly.
@Sempf @bud_t heartily seconding the baratza (not ceramic but excellent burr grinder)
@Sempf @bud_t +1. I’ve had mine for 15 years and it’s never let me down
@bud_t Without knowing your budget, take a look at the Femobook grinders. They have a few different prize points and performance levels. I’ve also heard positive things from the Fellow Opus grinder considering what it costs.
I was considering getting the Femobook A68 before finally deciding on the Mazzer Philos. Offhand, don’t recall burr materials for those grinders though.
@Cristobalm thanks I'll look into these. Our daily drip is a Technivorm moccamaster, and I also grind for AeroPress, and my wife likes her French press. So we have a variety of grinding needs!
@bud_t Also, what Cuisinart model were you using?
@ai6yr I'll have to look up the model number. At first I thought it was just a limit switch program for the grounds holder but the plastic holder itself appears to be broken.
@bud_t Why ceramic burrs?
@bud_t If you are open to a steel burr, you'll find the df line to be decent. Femobooks as well. Baratza at the lower end of cost has gotten good praise.
@lawyerjsd I like ceramic burrs and it what I've always had. No other real reason
@bud_t Oh. Get steel burrs. It’ll open up a whole new world.
@lawyerjsd how so? Easier to clean?
@bud_t Better performance. And probably easier to clean. Going from ceramic burrs to steel burrs is a big step up in terms of clarity.
@bud_t I picked up a used Baratza Encore that had just been refurbished for $100. I make pour over, French press, and moka pot; this grinder expertly handles them all. In addition to being an excellent grinder, I like Baratza's commitment to not trashing the environment by providing replacement parts as well as diy upgrades. They're sometimes hard to come by but will worth the price.

@bud_t I had a Baratza Encore for years. Easy to disassemble and maintain, excellent customer support.

I’m now using a Niche Zero. Also excellent, a little nicer than the Baratza to use.

@bud_t
Everyone seems to love Baratza Encore so I got one of those. And have been pretty happy with it, though I suppose I’m not very picky.

If you make espresso you would likely want the ESP model.

I imagine there’s better grinders out there but the Encore is a good performer for its price point.

@bud_t Rereading your post with morning eyes I caught your requirements a little better. While I still contend the Baratza Encore (especially with the M2 burr upgrade) will suit your needs just fine, I've always wanted the Baratza Vario+ which is their consumer flat ceramic burr grinder. It's just a bit outside my price range.

@bud_t I like my Baratza grinders. Their Vario or Forte might match your needs. They are very repair friendly and most parts are avalable on their site.
