@2legged A black and white line drawing illustration with the word "MATT" written in red at the top. The drawing shows two people in suits walking along a street past a lamppost and a tower. Simple outlines of clouds and a fence are visible in the background. At the bottom, the text reads, "'Could the Labour Party replace Keir Starmer without telling him about it?'"

Guessing that he has to stay on until after the May elections, because otherwise his successor will be left to explain why Labour lost so may seats to the Greens.

I agree, @ReggieHere. All potential successors need #Starmer to carry the can for wipeout on 7th May.

But will anyone be in a rush to challenge Starmer?

Streeting is ambitious but unelectable. Rayner is eager, but has baggage. Burnham is popular, but way overrated (good mayor, but twice-failed Blairite leadership candidate), and lacks a path to Westminster: can Labour win any parliamentary by-election now? #NoSafeSeats

Starmer may stagger on for a year or two, while Greens eat Labour.

@2legged

Agree, although given the extraordinary arrogance displayed by Labour's centrist faction I expect that the likes of Streeting will be convinced that the Greens are just a flash in the pan and will be taken out in much the same way that Corbyn was derailed (fraudulent antisemitism accusations and a mainstream media mauling).

Yes, @ReggieHere, the smear campaign against the Greens is already well underway. And it will escalate a lot further.

But Zack Polanski much better than Jeremy Corbyn at fighting back, so I dint think the outcome is guaranteed. But the Labour hard right who masquerade as "centrists" will probably be confident of winning again.

@2legged

Labour centrists are in for the first political upset when the Greens wipe out their seat count in England in the upcoming elections.

The second upset will after Starmer resigns and his replacement has completed a media tour to explain how they have learned from earlier mistakes and listened to members and are going to change.....and their polling *still* doesn't improve.

@ReggieHere Yes, the #Pasokification of the #LabourParty is now irreversible. Even if the Greens are smeared, Labour isn't coming back. The best that they can hope for is a slower decline.
