UK, welcome back to Erasmus+ 🇪🇺🇬🇧

The EU and the United Kingdom sealed the deal to bring the UK back into Erasmus+ from 2027.

We are rebuilding opportunities for the next generation to study, work and grow together, giving people the chance to connect across borders once again.

It will also help create and deepen partnerships between our academic institutions.

Together again through learning, exchange and connection 🤝

@EUCommission it would have been a good idea to summarize "what Erasmus+ **is**" in the post...
@Kdude @EUCommission It's money spent over a number of years that helps students, teachers and sports organisations to study, train or volunteer abroad.
@Kdude @EUCommission
people who care already know. People who don't care don't want to know.
Hi, @Kdude. You can find more information about Erasmus+ and how it works here: https://link.europa.eu/T3yDMB
What is Erasmus+?

Erasmus+ is the EU's programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe.

Erasmus+

@Kdude @EUCommission

Exactly what I was thinking, an obvious extension of the "define acronyms the first time you use them" rule. Which now that I think of it seems to be poorly observed these days as well.

@EUCommission As a general matter, the EU should follow a strict anti-cake policy. But Erasmus participation isn’t cake. It doesn’t require EU or even EEA membership, and UK students should not be penalized for the belligerent stupidity of their Brexiteer grandparents.
@Marcus Marcius Marcellus
UK students should not be penalized for the belligerent stupidity of their Brexiteer grandparents.
i think they should!
@jabgoe2089 Considering my entire country got dragged out of the EU without our will, It's not exactly fair. 62% voted to remain, and the Leave never got a majority in any council area in Scotland. So we didn't vote for this.
@Sydney / Prophet 🏳️‍⚧️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 that's a moot view. as long as the majority doesn't vote in favour of the eu and this is also reflected in the election results all this whining about the "actual real majority" is just cringeworthy. the uk is no dictatorship. if 62% were in favour of a reentry to the eu, then they would make their wish known. in reality there is no such majority.
@jabgoe2089 I don't exactly know what you mean, that's the Brexit results, England pulled us out of the EU, Scotland didn't vote for it and once we become independent we're hoping to rejoin, since we've been told we can rejoin if we do.
@Sydney / Prophet 🏳️‍⚧️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 when nobody voted for it how come they left at all???
@jabgoe2089 Because Scotland is dragged into England's shit, It's the reason why Independence has gotten more popular over the last couple of years

@EUCommission

En gros, rien n'a changé avec les Britaniques: ils veulent le beurre et l'argent du beurre. Comme depuis toujours.

@EUCommission hi, I want to ask how will you address trans people who want to participate in the Erasmus+ program, specially on universities and vocational training academies coming from trans-accepting countries (like Spain)?

I don't think people want to be excluded from participating into the program, or suffering consequences because measures were not taken. We, as trans people, may suffer different kind of discrimination in UK, even in a legal frame.

Some trans people undergoing HRT but who did not change data yet may suffer discrimination there, and even so, those who changed the data may be subject to special screening or misclassified, or directly excluded from going to certain spaces, even if it was accepted in their home countries.

That being said, it will be worse when taking into account the healthcare protections, or even security in the place. I would like a document specifying the procedure without letting this to be dealt at university/academies level, because let's say the truth, it will just finish in trans people being excluded to avoid the «issues» and the legal charge.

If there will be nothing to cover this, I prefer UK not being integrated back into the Erasmus+ program or any other program which implies the participation of EU-citizens, specially students and specially taking into account that some may be even underage trans people (16-17 yo usually participate in this program in the university or academies I studied at).

@echedellelr @EUCommission

This is such an important question and of course they're ignoring it...

@EUCommission

As an EU citizen, and coming from Eastern Europe, I find it hard to find any sympathy for the English after all the vitriol and contempt they've treated us with.

I don't welcome these news. The UK wants to be an island unto its own. Let them.

@largo
This is what healthy self-respect looks like, thank you. A needed reminder to all the (mostly) Northern EUros who treat this programme, which is not restricted to EU members and into which they pay to participate, like a 3am drunk text from the toxic ex. #SvenProblems

@EUCommission

@largo @EUCommission
I don't really blame you. As an elderly Brit, I am delighted, many, many of us never wanted to leave in the first place. It was a stupid idea and has proved to be as disastrous as we feared. I hope the UK will be back fully within my lifetime.
@EUCommission the UK is genuinely just doing EU membership without EU membership at this point

@reiddragon @EUCommission

What does Erasmus+ have to do with EU membership?

@Mab_813 @EUCommission since the Brexit referendum, the UK has been trying to stay integrated or reintegrate into various EU institutions, Erasmus+ being just the latest, but by no means do I expect it to be the last.

@EUCommission This is great news. I am working at an Austrian Gymnasium in Vienna that has an Erasmus program, afaik ...

And maybe Great Britain itself finds the way back into the European Union. 🇪🇺🇬🇧

@EUCommission
Welcome to the students, despite being unelected elite 🤣
It will be a while before the Boris Johnson bullshit in my face will wear off. Perhaps it is time to wash my face. 😊

@EUCommission
Every step closer to BRejoin is good.

(And the rejoin deal would obviously be without the carve-outs and exceptions the UK had before)

@Gurre Vildskägg Looks like idea of CANZUK is much real, ATM.
But why not CANZUK joining EU. 🤷‍♂️😁
@martin
The CANZ parts? Not even closely in Europe! But I guess full EEA membership, Schengen, and defence alliance - that could be good?

@EUCommission
Erasmus, where you go to learn but you end with kids!
You could also find your love of your life too and don;t have kids.

‘You Wouldn’t Exist Without Europe’: The Erasmus Baby Phenomenon

@EUCommission this is a good thing for the young people in the UK who wish to expand their potential by experiencing what the EU Member States and third countries associated with Erasmus+ have to offer.
Hopefully young people from the other members will choose to come to the UK.
@EUCommission
The UK is coming back to its senses? As if.
Scotland will be back, make it soon. We never voted to leave in the first place.
@EUCommission great way to study Brexit consequences and imperialism
@EUCommission
I will never send my sons in a country where protesting against genocide is a crime.
I hope many other parents will boycott UK.

@Davide_Sandini @EUCommission

Why would it be your decision?
University students are grown-ups, they should decide for themselves whether they want to study abroad and if so, where they want to go.

@Mab_813
I could not oppose to a their own adult decision, but I can make some better and with better outcome: learn them now to avoid and oppose genociders and genocide enablers. Do you educate your childrens that when they are grown they are free to kill someone because " it's their decision" or "they are not humans"? Already heard the second...
@EUCommission
@EUCommission
Here's to hoping it's a step towards rejoining the EU fully. God the UK is bleak now.
@EUCommission Seems this thread is an excuse for pent-up xenophobia.
@EUCommission Is this an effective midway point to counteracting Brexit?
@EUCommission hey #canada we should try to get in on this. One step for us to be integrated into the EU.
@EUCommission What happens when Nigel Farage and his corrupt band of fascists win the next election in the UK though? We may just be in an interlude between two far right governments.
@EUCommission i really hope this is is the first step for a full come back to Europe for UK 🇪🇺
