#Vance wading into spat between #Trump and the #Pope is only turning the heat up…

“It would be best for the Vatican to stick to matters of morality, to stick to matters of what’s going on in the Catholic church and let the president of the United States stick to dictating American public policy”

- Trump is a dictator acting without checks or balances.

- launching an illegal war is not merely ‘public policy’

JD Vance defends Trump amid spat with Pope Leo: ‘Stick to matters of morality’

Catholic vice-president effectively tells Leo to stay in his lane after pope criticized the White House over the Iran war

The Guardian

If war is now considered to be outside of the confines of morality by modern politicians then we are in a very dangerous place indeed.

This is absolutely why we need more history and philosophy taught in schools.

But…

“No one is going to give you the education you need to overthrow them”

I get that some religious folks find #Trump’s Jesus/Pope cosplaying highly disrespectful…but I would argue these things are worse:

1) targeting civilians in an illegal war (killing innocent women and children)

2) raping and sexually assaulting women and children

3) having innocent men, women and children kidnapped off US streets and put into prison camps

@JugglingWithEggs it cuts through to some who still hadn't seen through him though, and that's why it's worth shouting about.
@JugglingWithEggs Vance is a total idiot
@JugglingWithEggs He projects "authority" unconvincingly just like the other clowns in the Drumph administration

@JugglingWithEggs

Vance's problem with the Pope is that the Pope DOES stick to matters of morality.

@BlueDot @JugglingWithEggs Yup.

***At the very least***, there are plenty of Catholic Church adherents in the military. Is the Pope supposed to ignore their existence?

@JugglingWithEggs Meanwhile, Trump posts icons of himself as both the Pope and as Jesus.

@arem

Yup…no one is buying the line that the robes and glowing lights coming out of his hands are medical in any way.

I get that some religious folks find Trump’s Jesus cosplaying highly disrespectful…but I would argue these things are worse:

@JugglingWithEggs Could it be? Vance advocating for the separation of Church and State?

@StephenMoore

He probably thinks he’s advocating for the separation of Church and State or more importantly he wants others to think that’s what he’s doing, but I find his wording clunky in the extreme.

Trump and Vance are also literally using Project 2025 to copy and paste policy from…

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/jul/26/kevin-roberts-project-2025-opus-dei

Kevin Roberts, architect of Project 2025, has close ties to radical Catholic group Opus Dei

Heritage Foundation leader has long received spiritual guidance from group and his policy goals align with its teachings

@JugglingWithEggs

US VP says politicians can pretend god supports military action, but religious people can't tell politicians to follow religious insyruction in rhe Christian nationalist movement where rule by religious pretenders is insisted on.

@JugglingWithEggs Something some Catholics (Vance for example) don't understand is that the pope is the head of the church and represents God, intreprets the bible, et cetera. If you choose not to follow the word of the pope, if you read the bible on your own, et cetera, then you are not Catholic. I'm not religious, by the way, but just wanted to point that out.

@JugglingWithEggs How can JD Vance be a catholic and somehow be under the impression that the Catholic church has ever stuck "to matters of what’s going on in the Catholic church"?

Either you ignore the Pope, which is fine, or you don't, and then you give him power. They have not ignored him, so they give him power.

@JugglingWithEggs I wonder how many iterations he went through, how many people played the test audience, before coming to, in effect, you just keep all that morality stuff out of the United States government...
@JugglingWithEggs a ruling head of state should stay out of politics. Interesting. If only we applied that also to Trump.
