Latent Image is the clear winner tonight, but a LOOOONG mile. Such a great idea with great performances. Definitely the best of Trek.

@MisophonicSpree @MirrorAyako @startrek

Yea. I like that one too. Great story all around.

In that book which is my memory, on the first page of the chapter that is the day when I first met you, appear the words: Here begins a new life.

@MisophonicSpree @lxskllr @MirrorAyako @startrek Latent Image just barely missed making my top 5 list of #StarTrekVOY episodes.

Voyager is a great series. So many superb episodes to choose from.

@MisophonicSpree @sezduck @MirrorAyako @startrek

I feel like it's below TNG and DS9 for quality, but it has a certain something that puts it even with those two for my enjoyment. Not exactly sure what that something is, but it's there.

There's outstanding episodes of course, with this being one, but I feel like there's fewer of them than in TNG & DS9. Dunno, subjective I guess, but VOY does rock. I love Janeway :^)

#AllStarTrek

@lxskllr @MisophonicSpree @sezduck @MirrorAyako @startrek I agree. Voyager may have been slightly behind on the story front (mainly due to external factors)... But a large majority of the cast and crew treated it like an opportunity of a lifetime and gave it their all anyway.
@arazil @lxskllr @sezduck @MirrorAyako @startrek
Yeah all these things are objective. I think that VOY has a great hit rate. I think it's first season was WAY better than TNG's first season. Which makes sense because TNG was restarting after a long break and VOY had a better budget in the first year.
@MisophonicSpree @arazil @lxskllr @sezduck @MirrorAyako @startrek
We are just about to complete our watch-through on DVD, doing 2-3 episodes a night. A few days ago, when folks were doing their top 5 list, mine was more like top 15. While there are some turkeys, like with every series, #VOY does such a good job of letting actors explore their characters to the extremes, especially the last few seasons.
@ColesStreetPothole @arazil @lxskllr @sezduck @MirrorAyako @startrek
The thing that I wish for for Voyager is a bit more continuity. There was a /little/ continuity but mostly the stories were forgotten in any subsequent episode. But that's how they did TV back then.

@MisophonicSpree @arazil @lxskllr @sezduck @MirrorAyako @startrek
I think they floundered in the first few seasons. They established the series premise and got Delta quadrant established, but struggled with the characters; they made up for that later on.

There is also a structural challenge—Voyager was always leaving things behind, mostly only the folks on the ship could be developed.

@ColesStreetPothole @arazil @lxskllr @sezduck @MirrorAyako @startrek
Yeah the Kazon weren't the best baddies ever? They have stolen spaceships but they can't make their own water? Something doesn't track.

@MisophonicSpree @ColesStreetPothole @arazil @sezduck @MirrorAyako @startrek

Yea, I don't know how those idiots even figured out how to fly a ship. If a ship dropped in my backyard, I wouldn't know what to do with it. Probably kill myself trying to take off :^D

#AllStarTrek

@lxskllr @MisophonicSpree @ColesStreetPothole @sezduck @MirrorAyako @startrek It was so bad that, by early season 2, they retconned a new species in (the Trabe) to explain why the Kazon were so stupid and dysfunctional.

@arazil @MisophonicSpree @ColesStreetPothole @sezduck @MirrorAyako @startrek

The Kazon stuck around quite awhile also. For as derpy as a group they were, they occupied a lot of territory :^D

#AllStarTrek

@lxskllr @MisophonicSpree @ColesStreetPothole @sezduck @MirrorAyako @startrek That was another flaw in the original Voyager premise... In order to do the premise right, the show needed to constantly switch up the baddie roster as the ship moved closer to home. I don't think that Paramount's executives were ready or willing to part with the budget required to really pull that off in the last 1990s.

@arazil @lxskllr @MisophonicSpree @sezduck @MirrorAyako @startrek
Yeah, that's what I alluded to before—leaving the previous episode's characters behind meant the show had more of a "monster/situation of the week" vibe than DS9 did, or even than TNG.

That said, the monster/situation of the week episodes were some of Voyager's best, particularly later in the series.

@arazil @lxskllr @MisophonicSpree @sezduck @MirrorAyako @startrek
For instance, I think Night is spectacular. Great premise, great new alien concepts, great costumes.
@ColesStreetPothole @lxskllr @MisophonicSpree @sezduck @MirrorAyako @startrek I always liked the 7th season "reboot" episode, "The Void." I feel it's a microcosm of what the writers originally wanted out of the series before reality dictated otherwise.

@arazil @lxskllr @MisophonicSpree @sezduck @MirrorAyako @startrek Yes, we just watched The Void! It has so much! A new space phenomenon, a new species, and a plot that causes the main characters to clash as they try to resolve things! And I giggled with glee when Janeway said "Welcome to the Alliance!" 😂

FWIW, I just had to add this picture from Night. Look at this intelligent raisin! Such a great appearance!
