The boys accidentally turned on the radio this morning, and tuned it to static. I set out to re-tune it to WQXR (Classical) and wound up on WBGO (Jazz). They were transfixed, and wanted to know where the music was coming from, and if there would be another song after this one. I explained there is a person who works in an office with shelves full of records, and when the song finishes that person will choose the next one. They didn't want to go to school until they heard the DJ's next song.
The DJ came on to announce the end of her show, and plugged her Saturday 8pm show. 5yo asked, "Can we listen to the radio again on Saturday after dinner?"
The show was Hard Bop Cafe with Monifa Brown, in case you need to know.
@jrbe wait until they hear ads, and the DJ talking over the outros. Ahhhh

@ZenHeathen @jrbe Right?! Don't enable me to believe that the kids might, after all, be all right! 😫

(I think they might be, though. β˜ΊοΈπŸ€˜πŸ€˜πŸ€˜βœŒοΈπŸ––)

@jrbe
The DJs at WWOZ (the Jazz and Heritage music station in New Orleans) are volunteers and they're often spotted bringing music in from their own collections to play during their programs.

They also very frequently have musicians visiting the studios to talk about their work and to play music live.

WWOZ.org for streaming.

@cordelya oh, I know WWOZ. A lot of my jazz education was formed driving around New Orleans tuned in to that station.
@jrbe wait until they hear WFUV
@jrbe sounds like you're raising them right! The best thing I did in college was to volunteer at the college station, DJing and such. I recommend it to all college-age folks.
@jrbe That's great! My son made a radio with his snap circuits set once and when we turned it on, he looked at me delighted and asked what it was. I said it was a radio, and then he said, "What's a radio?" πŸ˜†
@kennypeanuts @jrbe
The snap circuits radio is great! "Daddy! I made a Fly FM radio!" (The local pop station his mom listens to is Fly FM)
