What's a good cheap/free email service that works, has a phone app, is easy to set up, and I could have to slowly replace gmail?

@hiisikoloart I have mailbox.org. It is German, cheap (starting from 1 eur/month), but unfortunately no phone app.
@hiisikoloart I’ve using startmail.com (not using their phone app tho). There is unlimited aliases and imap acces control if your device get lost (via internet browser).
@KuuraOhto
Okay, you said many smart words there and I know some of them separately. (^_^)* What does "imap access mean? Also why don't you use their phone app (is it not good)?

@hiisikoloart You can enable or disable access to your phone or other device's email app (of your choice) from the website version of the inbox site (settings). So when disabled syncing emails stops and may log out (not sure for that).

I just want to use the iPhone's built-in email app

@hiisikoloart @KuuraOhto
Just want to point out Startmail doesn't have a mobile app of it's own, but there are a few third party email apps that it can be easily set up on: https://support.startmail.com/hc/en-us/sections/4415530088081-Email-Clients-On-Mobile

@hiisikoloart Zoho Mail is cheap, has an Android app, and if you're in Europe they have EU-based servers.

I can recommend to check out dutch non-profit https://disroot.org and the services they offer.

I'm happy with their solutions (more than just email).

I've been using Startmail for a while and generally like it. It has most of the features I want, is much more secure than the likes of gmail, I haven't heard nasty news about the CEO, and they've actually made official public statements against implementing gen-AI features.

@hiisikoloart Fastmail, not free but very cheap for what you get (email, file storage, even static site hosting). It's $50/year in the US and it's based in Australia. I've been using it for over 10 years and I can't go back to a free provider, none of them come close. You get custom filters, throwaway/one-time-use aliases, the iOS and Android apps are top notch and they even have a desktop app that is far better than anything else I've used.

I hate to sound like an advertisement but they earned it with me.
