@pluralistic PSA: #Brave has started indexing and presenting results from #grokipedia , a known #disinformation source which uses #LLMs unethically. I am very disappointed by this development; #Grok pollutes public discourse in a very #toxic way, similar to #Meta 's use of LLMs, for example. People need to stop believing Brave is [anything but a backdoor](https://thelibre.news/no-really-dont-use-brave/#2016-%E2%80%94-brave-browser-promises-to-replace-webpage-ads). Brave has:
- tried to insert crypto-miners into its packages
- injected referral codes into links
- replaced ads on websites with Brave-sourced and distributed ads
- took crypto-donations on behalf of people who didn't know there was a donation campaign in an attempt to generate a use for their boutique cryptocurrency
- has been selling their search database to AI companies, hiding their spiders and ignoring website owner's requests to not do this

On top of this, the CEO has been ranting about wokeness and queer folks existing for years now. Dude is a real shitstain, and he's been selling a privacy fantasy that just redirects all of your data towarss *him*, so that *he* can do what *he* wants with it.

Brave is not a privacy-focused browser. It never has been. It just keeps using that word in order to lure in marks for their little carnival game.

@Kichae @pluralistic Yeah I was kind of aware of most of the points your cited author raised, apart from the politically dubious ones, but I'm sticking with Brave for now. It saved me from Edge death, you can turn nearly all of the offending crap right off, it is the most technically tolerable mainstream Chromium fork and runs the limited set of extensions I need it to, with the exception of degoogled Chromium which I haven't tried (last I looked, no binaries?)
