This is a frightening map, especially given the fact that this is normally near the peak in snowpack across the West. There are many far-reaching consequences from this historic snow drought, ranging from increasing risk of summer wildfires to major water concerns.

I'm thinking of buying my own firetruck...
(for personal use only, not for enshittifying forest fires.)

@ZLabe It is indeed frightening. One wonders why national politics does not make these issues a priority but instead often deny they exists.
@ZLabe Well hey, if there's one thing we learned from California last year, it's that we can rely on Trump to "save the day" by draining reservoirs on the wrong side of a mountain to combat fires.

@Shdwdrgn @ZLabe

When you call Trump an idiot you assume he isn't deliberately trying to hurt you.

Look at the pattern more closely. He is killing as many as he can, hurting as many as he can, and lying about everything.

These people are bringing back the measles *on purpose.* It's not stupidity, it's part of their plan.

@ZLabe Hopefully El Nino will help pack some of our reservoirs.

@ZLabe

Don't worry, the sea is rising up to hydrate the west coast.

A couple isostatic adjustments and a tsunami or two will fill those aquifers right back up.

@ZLabe

What bugs me about this as somebody who has lived in the state all their life, is the loss of the snow pack is something that has been for seen for quite some time.

There really hasn’t been anything done to address it to my knowledge, except even crazier, notions of major dam projects.

The Colorado was not in very good condition either. And there are all these farms raising alfalfa and other water intensive crops such as almonds and cotton with senior water rights

@ZLabe Yep, going to be a smokey Summer in the PNW.
@ZLabe Utahs governor Cox told Utahns to pray for snow. Mean while people are fined for xeriscaping.
@ZLabe
If you're thinking of moving to the Pacific Northwest to live in a forest, don't. Then again, if you like the cozyness of staying indoors because of smoke, and like the excitement of evacuating from fires, then do.

@ZLabe

The Canadian west is anomolous.

Near average overall but above average further north, well below in the south, which applies the major rivers to populated areas.

I particularly follow this because in 1981, my first ever IT job was in adapting the US Army's river modeling and flood forecasting programs for the Alberta government. Mainframe Fortran.

One of the main inputs was detailed snowpack data.
