The earth is getting closer!

:)

And closer!

The panel in front of the earth is visibly moving.

(This is as close as I’ll ever get to returning to earth, so find this so exciting. :))

We are moving so fast that the earth is going off screen again. :)

Look how thin the atmosphere is.

I wonder what the risk of collision with the satellite junk is?

Guy in ground control looks like Ted Lasso. :)
And closer!
And this is a wide angle lens. It must be more amazing through the window.
Inside shot!
Closing in!

The lighting on the aircraft carrier interviews is abysmal. :)

A long shot looked much better exposed.

They’ve been at sea for days and they haven’t practised their camera work?

@CStamp They might be committed to shooting in a particular direction because of other activity on deck, and then the sun direction is bad. As they move to get closer, it may get better and worse in turns.
@ZenHeathen That is what reflectors snd diffusers are for. And if they can’t avoid crappy lighting in close, they should step back to where it works.
@CStamp Yes, they should definitely have reflectors between the camera and people. Unfortunately, it must also be noted that Megan, doing the on-deck interviews, is a Person of Colour. Historically, white people have designed cameras and lighting and far too often don't take other skin tones into account. Again--they have enough experience that you'd think they'd be better, but I feel that could be part of it.
@ZenHeathen it’s more than that. Everyone looks bad in the close shots and everyone looks good in the wide shot. It’s like whatever camera being used for the closeups isn’t being set to the correct exposure. They look like they’re in a dense fog.
@CStamp A lot of hand activity in the in-capsule view. I don't know which of those two is Reid and which Victor, but they both are very busy. Do you think the gloves don't fit as well as they'd like, or are they maybe keeping their hands warm?
@ZenHeathen I would expect that they’ve practised a lot with gloves on.
@CStamp I'm sure. But now they're *up there*, so I wonder if the temperature is a bit different. Of course, the other thing that occurred to me is fidgeting, nervous energy.
This is a great ad for both GoPro and Nikon.
Splashdown! Everything textbook. :)

“I wonder what hazards they are checking for?”

“They are checking for alien goo.”

And also, “they are checking for cheese.”

LOL.

Woohoo! Door is finally opened!!!
“Front porch” could’ve been an entertaining drinking game while waiting for the front porch to be set up. 😃
Well, that was a nice evening. :)
@CStamp if he said erection one more time…

@CStamp
They said it would take 10 minutes to build the front porch.

Yeah right!

@Rozzychan :)

They mentioned currents were adding extra difficulty.

@CStamp
How long does it take to deploy a raft..?

Announcer keeps saying they're waiting for it "to be erected". They don't say who is erecting it. Are they all waiting for someone else to do it?

@TerryHancock They also mentioned that they were checking it for hazardous gases first. That was why they were circling, holding things up to it.

I’d like to hear more detail on that. But they are being very cautious. It’s frustrating for us not knowing the details.

I don't think it's too high. You don't hear about ISS getting hit on the regular, and this is just one pass through the zone.

But if it DOES get struck, it'll make a pretty big pit at the much higher relative speed!

@TerryHancock Isn’t ISS in higher orbit than the space junk?

@CStamp
It may be above a lot of it -- I don't know about distribution. But ISS and Shuttle have been struck in the past.

Thing is, we're talking about TINY stuff -- even a 1 gram fleck of paint carries bullet-like levels of energy at those speeds.

@CStamp We've gotten so used to seeing so much of the craft externally, it's going to be weird when they release the service module when they get close, and the cameras on the solar panels aren't there anymore.

Ooh! There might be a quick view *from* them as they drift away from Orion, looking back!

But then I don't think we'll have a view from outside at all until we're seeing chutes, and maybe not from inside during that period.

@ZenHeathen @CStamp

IDK. That could be a great shot. 🤔

Can't be a high priority, but somebody has to be operating that camera. They might've thought of it.

@ZenHeathen @CStamp

Well. They got a little bit of it!
