ZenHeathen 🇨🇦@CStamp They might be committed to shooting in a particular direction because of other activity on deck, and then the sun direction is bad. As they move to get closer, it may get better and worse in turns.
@ZenHeathen That is what reflectors snd diffusers are for. And if they can’t avoid crappy lighting in close, they should step back to where it works.
@CStamp Yes, they should definitely have reflectors between the camera and people. Unfortunately, it must also be noted that Megan, doing the on-deck interviews, is a Person of Colour. Historically, white people have designed cameras and lighting and far too often don't take other skin tones into account. Again--they have enough experience that you'd think they'd be better, but I feel that could be part of it.
@ZenHeathen it’s more than that. Everyone looks bad in the close shots and everyone looks good in the wide shot. It’s like whatever camera being used for the closeups isn’t being set to the correct exposure. They look like they’re in a dense fog.
@CStamp A lot of hand activity in the in-capsule view. I don't know which of those two is Reid and which Victor, but they both are very busy. Do you think the gloves don't fit as well as they'd like, or are they maybe keeping their hands warm?
@ZenHeathen I would expect that they’ve practised a lot with gloves on.
@CStamp I'm sure. But now they're *up there*, so I wonder if the temperature is a bit different. Of course, the other thing that occurred to me is fidgeting, nervous energy.
