One of my new abstracted pieces that I’m nervous about sharing because it feels so different, but to me it’s exactly the same. And I like it very much. I like the process and the results. I find it creative, interesting, and challenging.

Maybe finished. Going to sit with it.

@JoBlakely this is great! Reminds me of seeing a lot of kites or hot air balloons in the sky!
@Trenton_Hoshiko thank you so much!
@JoBlakely I'm excited to see more of your abstracts if you post them! :)

@Trenton_Hoshiko

Thank you so much! I appreciate it.

@JoBlakely I love your portraits, and I do not mean to compare the two types of painting, but even before I saw it was you and read the words of your post, I thought, "Oh, yeah, this is the stuff!"

@JoBlakely
Early Spring, in the mornings when birds are in migration. Just you and a thousand birds are all thats outside. The world should be quiet but there are these birds, noisy and filling that empty space with energy and change. At least for me, that's my impression.
A sense of motion, chaos and change swelling in the moment.

It's very evocative without being bold or stark.

@Kalshann thank you so much! Yes, evocative it a good word to describe what I’m going for.
@JoBlakely I thought it might be an abstract representation of a starling murmuration. Love it.
@temporal_spider I almost don’t want to tell people what was in my head and I almost do.
I certainly enjoy hearing what others get out of it.
@JoBlakely There's a book called A Rose for Armageddon, by Hilbert Schenk that explores the shape of things, and how you can predict events from the shapes of surrounding events. It's a strange, almost unclassifiable book, and thus, one of my favorites. It's old SF, and you might like it.
@temporal_spider sounds very interesting. Thanks for the recommendation.
@JoBlakely It is lacking a central point, suggestion - a bright orange moving on red?

@connynasch no.
I feel it does have a focus. Enough anyway. The single black triangle on the beach facing up that practically everything on the page except the yellow line is pointing and converging upon. I designed this very intentionally. The only change I might be making is bringing one of the arrows on the left more curved trail and lower towards where beach meets water.

Also not every painting needs a central focus, some of my next pieces don’t really have one.

@JoBlakely If you love it, then there is no need to be nervous! It doesn't matter really how others might receive it no matter if they praise it or if they discard it. You must stay true to yourself and you did. Sit with this painting (which I - I must admit - really like a lot), be joyful about it and don't let upcreeping doubts destroy your joy about it. And then continue staying true to yourself and make a new painting and stay open to be surprised again. 🙂
@JoBlakely Oh I'm so happy that you did share it, feels very "you" to me! My brain loves the abstract, this is great. 💜
@JoBlakely This strikes me. Flipped over to the tab with my feed, saw it, and had to stop what I was doing to look at it. It don't what, but it says *something* to me.
@stagerabbit That’s awesome. Thank you. Appreciate it.
@JoBlakely I really _really_ like that painting! Reminds me of synesthesia
@cb thank you! That’s cool. I use to have a rhythmic synesthesia as a child with numbers.
@JoBlakely whoa, rhythmic synesthesia!?? I haven't heard of that. Sounds fascinating. Would you mind describing your experience?
My synesthesia is all senses -> colors and shapes, plus letters/numbers/symbols are all in color and have gender and social relationships
@cb when I heard strings of numbers (like phone numbers) I heard rhythm. Like drums. I also have a kind of discalculia and I think the rhythm was not helpful.
@cb that’s cool. Wow. My synesthesia faded out, unsure when. I could remember phone numbers by their rhythm.
@JoBlakely there's a lot going on there, but I like how it seems I can see thru it all, to the distance, in the middle.
