The Royal Tyrrell Museum is probably the best museum I've ever been to. Completely unapologetic, fully scientific presentations on evolution, Earth's history, extinction, and it even ends with a powerful statement on climate change. With the added bonus of many children (and some adults...perhaps me...) completely losing their minds over cool dinosaurs. WOW.

Definitely go to this museum if you're ever anywhere near Alberta!!

We also saw tens of thousands of snow geese flying through the skies and resting by lakes in gigantic fields of grain and canola stubble. And snow. Back to snow.

My trusty Saskatchewan travel mug (which I got for being in a Sask tourism video shoot), held many flat whites while I was visiting New Zealand. But now it's returning to the real Flat White: Saskatchewan. The #ProfSamLectureTour will be fully completed by the end of the day today.

#BabyGoatCountdown is at 7 days!

I AM HOME!!

I am covered with dog hair and cat hair and goat hair and snow and everything is good. I am so grateful to everyone who made it possible for me to go on this trip (especially the farm sitter! He did an amazing job!)

And I'm so happy to be home!

@sundogplanets Did your animals swarm you when you got home? Any of them mad at you for leaving and shun you in proper cat fashion?
@mayintoronto The cats didn't shun me! Or shun my kids! I even got the full-on jump-up-and-rub-my-face-all-over-you greeting from one of them! What an honour. Goats, dogs, and llama were also all very happy to get scritches and snuggles. Such a nice welcome!

@mayintoronto @sundogplanets

My daughter’s cat used to great is so reliably, I though she could trigger an alarm: if she stayed hidden when the door opens, call the cops.

@BenHM3 My friend's cat would welcome you when you get home, then shun you for a few days for leaving. Traitor!

@sundogplanets

@sundogplanets Welcome home, Sam! It all worked dout! 😁
@sundogplanets went without an off-farm vacation for years due to not having a good farm sitter. So glad it all worked out well for you & the critters!
@sundogplanets I'd guess there were a whole lot of happy critters to welcome you home!

@GoatsLive

A whole lot of happy Fedizens, too!

@sundogplanets

@sundogplanets it’s been wonderful getting to share your travels. So glad you were able to go and are now safely home! On to baby goats!

@sundogplanets

WOOHOO!!!

It has been so much fun to watch your tour, but I'm happy you're home - it must feel good!

@sundogplanets
Everyone looks happy and healthy! Welcome home!
@sundogplanets Just in good time for #BabyGoatCountdown too! In a weeks time your fantastic New Zealand trip will feel like something you imagined, rather than actually did.
@sundogplanets This is nice news! I am glad you could use the opportunity for this trip and everything went well and kudos to your farm sitter!
Good to know you arrived home safely and in time for BabyGoats!
@sundogplanets Yay! Happy you, happy critters! Glad to hear the farm sitter worked out so well.
@sundogplanets Welcome home! Do you get some rest now or is it straight back into everything?
@rootsandcalluses Straight back into everything. Baby goats in 1 week!
@sundogplanets I had a feeling. But you get to be home for baby goat season. That's quite something :)
@sundogplanets
Hone is where the goat is...
@sundogplanets @Pollinators We will keep at a distance and won’t add any more hair 🤪 Welcome home! 🏠
@sundogplanets Welcome home and I'm looking forward to the baby goats ;-)
@leonieke me tooo!!! This is going to be so great
@sundogplanets That's what I call a big sky. Wonderful!

@sundogplanets

I've loved following your tour in Aotearoa but blimey I've missed these big, wide-open-skies-and-lands photos! 🤗

Roll on 7 days to baby goat time! 😃👏🙂

@sundogplanets snow geese resting on fields is one of those memories I'll never forget. What a view!
@sundogplanets @mayintoronto were they in winter.plumage? (White) I'd love to see that.
@sundogplanets I was just there, confirmed amazing! Saw some of my favourite charismatic(?) Cretaceous megafauna :)
@sundogplanets I definitely want to go there!
@sundogplanets I wonder how much it changed in the 28 years since I've been there last. 🦕
@sundogplanets and give yourself lots of time.

@sundogplanets I had family in Drumheller when I was a kid, so we used to go regularly. Such amazing memories, that place is incredible!

Drumheller itself it also beautiful, that drive into town through canyons.. just so damn cool

@sundogplanets Heck, go to Alberta just to go to the museum! The Borealopelta exhibit containing the mummified Ankylosaur was incredible. The armor! The skin! The story behind its discovery. The whole museum is indeed the best I've ever been to.
@chuck
That's one of the best things about it, the labels & plaques explain what you're looking at, in simple English that is clear to children without talking down to adults.
I got spoiled on those labels. I've been to other museums where the labels just say what it is without explaining anything about it (eg if you don't know what kimberlite is, you're SOL). The Tyrrell really understands the assignment.
@sundogplanets
@sundogplanets Favorite place for family vacations. We also had a visit, years ago to Drumheller excavation sites. Tyrell is a multi day visit.

@sundogplanets I love to hear this!! I did a project in a Uni class (management) last year on the Royal Tyrrell and hope to visit one day. It’s a life goal… that and seeing all of the Drumheller area. :)

I’m so happy you enjoyed it!!

@sundogplanets An amazing working museum in a landscape from another world.
@sundogplanets Ooh dang, some quality content on display indeed!
@sundogplanets
Isn't it awesome?? Did you say hi to the Nodosaur & pet its head?? It's my favorite place to take guests!

@sundogplanets

Agreed. I went several times when I lived in Alberta.

Now I worry that the UCP could defund it for teaching evolution.
Sigh.

@sundogplanets they gave me tattoo advice a couple treats ago. Really want to go thank them in person.
@sundogplanets Did they have a test for androids? (Slow Vangelis music plays in background)
@sundogplanets Thanks for reminding me about this place! I remember the first time I walked into this museum - it was just so awesome. Finally, all those dinosaurs from the tea cards and the baked bean can labels that I collected as a kid were there in front of me (I'm showing my age and country of origin). This museum is wow - and the drive around the dinosaur badlands park is worth it too.

@sundogplanets

Is it nice enough to take a walk in the trails? Our first visit there a kid discovered a dinosaur where there was some post rain erosion trickling.

@sundogplanets went there in 2012 and it was one of the highlights of our family trip out west.
@sundogplanets I've had the privilege of going there twice. Equally awesome both times!
@sundogplanets I totally agree, it's one of a kind, and the best museum I've been to as well!
@sundogplanets Been there and it was amazing
