Additionally:

Almost always order the dish on the menu named after the restaurant.

And always order whatever is outlined on the menu with a decorative box.

@marcoarment Yes, a real shortcut on "is this place worth returning to"
@marcoarment @merlinwisdom Has owning a restaurant changed how you evaluate other dining establishments?
@marcoarment @merlinwisdom At Chinese restaurants (at least in the US), order the dish with the least descriptive name ("Sauteed eight assortment", "emperor's chicken", ...). It is likely the one dish that the cook got to add to the boring descriptive menu.
@marcoarment Almost. Twice I ordered a pizza named after the restaurant (one in Italy, no less). Both were regretful abominations. 🤷
@marcoarment I'm reminded of Joe Kenda's take on fast food: Always order the Number One.
@marcoarment cal you share the menu of your restaurant? Would love to know what your special is
@marcoarment @merlinwisdom I’m going to Rocky Mountain Restaurant this week, you’re saying I should get their signature oysters then?
@marcoarment I did exactly this with both the main and the dessert this evening and I had a very nice meal.
