This problem has been solved, but politicians - and their wealthy patrons - do not want it. After WWII, the Allies required Germans to change their electoral system to prevent another Hitler from gaining power. They moved to a type of #proportionalrepresentation.

That should have been the signal for every democracy to look at their own electoral system, but no. And the rich oppose democracy generally, because its...democratic. They don’t want their power lessened.
