After WWII, the Germans were required to change their electoral system to prevent another Hitler. They went with #proportionalrepresentation , because when done properly, it prevents wannabe Hitlers like Trump from seizing power.

It is frustrating every single time that I see the popular votes versus seats won in Canadian elections.

Especially when you have a party like the Bloc Quebécois who run only in Québec, pull 1.2 million votes in that province, and receive 22 seats in the House, yet the NDP pulls 1.2 million across Canada and gets 7 seats.

All our system does is reward density, rather than delivering actual representation.

But someone please tell me how 'ranked ballots' will fix this*

Santa Monica should ditch its plurality at-large council elections and come into compliance with the California Voting Rights Act. But winner-take-all district elections aren't the only possible solution. Proportional #RankedChoiceVoting gives minority groups of all kinds the best opportunity to elect representatives of their choice, avoids spoilers and wasted votes, and ensures the large majority of voters actually get to choose a winner.
