I've been asking this of proponents of #MMP Mixed Member Proportional for years and have never received a substantive response.

At best, they hand wave my concern away claiming it wouldn't happen (we've seen how effective "norms" are at restraining despots and authoritarians) without addressing the fact that this is a tactic that is used extensively in many non-English speaking countries that employ MMP either in part or whole.

I want to be clear that I am 100% for making legislatures more representative of the populations that elect them.

IMHO the solution that would be easiest to implement at this time would be a #RankedBallot along with an acknowledgement that implementing RB is not the final solution but merely a step on a never ending journey of ensuring that those that govern are good-faith representatives of those that are governed.
