Friends, the long weekend continued to be full of care work all the way through, but as Adam remarked, if I had not been on holiday, the care work would still have been there -- and I would have also had the paid work to manage.

So at least I had free time to manage it?

There are some good things, though! I made soup and curry, and froze them both in some cake bar moulds (cheap versions of those popular 'Souper cubes' that are everywhere at the moment). This means I have nearly two dozen meals ready to defrost and eat as needed, huzzah!

I drove over to Denmark (the town not the country) and hung out with a friend for a couple of hours at her place. So good to catch up, we haven't seen each other for a couple of years. She's in the final gasps of her PhD so I was keen to hear her progress (and commiserate and cheer where appropriate).

Dad is doing better today and hopefully we'll hear back from his specialist about how we can modify his medication to prevent a repeat of the last few days.

And Kid1's friend is staying with us for a few days, a lovely guy, and we've had some good kitchen chats about food, religion, politics and childhoods. It's awesome 🥰

@teadrinker sounds like some good positives in there amongst the grind. Esp the bit about a young friend. I like getting to know my kids friends (mostly!)
@maxelcat Me too! On the whole, they have really good taste in friends ❤️
@teadrinker
Sounds like a mostly up weekend which is great & you got quite a few things done. A good weekend.
I’d never heard of souper cubes nor cake bar molds because I don’t make cake, but I googled because I’m always freezing things & I hate using plastic. Silicon would work well I think if they had lids if some sort.

@feather1952 The ones I've got are silicone. I've got two pink ones that I bought from Kmart a few months ago, and also a black one from my local Buy Nothing group a few years ago. They don't come with lids* but I just use them to freeze the portions and then I put them in ice cream containers or silicon freezer bags

*should add that the souper cubes do come with lids, I think, and maybe some other brands too, but I"ve not bothered with those

@teadrinker
I think I’d like containers with lids for me. My sister gets 4 dinner meals a week from a place that caters to those that no longer cook. She’s been saving the containers for me & I’ve been repurposing them for the meals I make to freeze. They’ve come in so handy. I freeze so much & always seem to be chasing for containers.
@teadrinker You've certainly been busy. (Did giggle slightly at "the town not the country!)
The cake bar moulds are a clever idea for freezing meals.

@caity It's the weirdest thing to name a town after a country, truly!

I also buy jars of tomato paste and freeze that in portions too -- I don't like things to be too tomatoey and it's cheaper to get a bigger quantity at once :)
