Something The Fifth Element gets so right is that they make the American police look intimidatingly militarised, but also profoundly stupid, and it works.

@vampiress

I look at the outfit and see laughably buffoonish, fat, cartoonish NPCs.

The high goofy symmetrical masks with "Police" backwards knocking on low doorways, the massive light in the center of the chest letting criminals/heroes where to aim, and everyone of those guys looks really fat and sweaty. At one point one of them orders McDonalds.

If I was running from these guys, I would be half tempted to trip one over, knowing it would be more than half a minute for them to recover.

@vampiress @softspeak

It’s the sweatiness that really clinches the authenticity…

@vampiress I mean they are pretty much like this in real life.
Not to say they aren't dangerous fascists though protecting capital.
@vampiress What really scares me are the people who think Judge Dredd is cool, not a parody.
@gimulnautti @vampiress Judge Dredd is British commentary on the US slide to fascism.
@vampiress it's a documentary from the future.
@vampiress
I gotta watch The Fifth Element again.
Nothing else quite like it out there.
👍
@vampiress This is one of the designs that French artist Jean Giraud (better known as Moebius) did for the movie!
@vampiress

"Negative, I am a meat popsicle."
@vampiress I feel it is more like "all cops" but that is a hot take
