RE: https://mastodon.social/@elementary/116325116309116883

Someone asked me for a refund over this post, so Iโ€™d like to make something clear: our community consists of trans and gay and disabled people and people of color and people whose first language is not English and a whole host of other kinds of marginalization and I have no plans to ever stop celebrating that. If thatโ€™s a problem for you, I am extremely happy to give you your money back.

@danirabbit take their money and donate it to a queer charity ๐Ÿ˜ˆ
@danirabbit I will never never understand the hate and bile that builds up in some peopleโ€™s hearts. What a miserable life that must be to constantly judge other peopleโ€™s life and happiness.
@danirabbit Like... Don't these bozos know that they are in the Fediverse?
@danirabbit ๐Ÿซ‚๐Ÿซ‚๐Ÿซ‚๐Ÿซ‚๐Ÿซ‚

@danirabbit Until reading this post, I had never heard of this project. $20 seems like a very fair price for what you're making. Thank you for bringing @elementary to my attention.

Will it run on an older MacBook such as the model A1278? https://support.apple.com/en-us/111958

@threatresearch hardware support on MacBooks can be hit or miss, the usual culprits being WiFi and webcam support. You can always try booting into demo mode first and seeing if everything works before installing!

@threatresearch @danirabbit @elementary it runs amazingly on a 2010 iMac so... I'm guessing yes!

*edit: my 2010 iMac.

@peachfiend @danirabbit @elementary Hell yes, new customer won to pick up the slack from this person who demanded a $20 refund.
@danirabbit honestly you shouldn't be giving refunds for this. The terms of service should state that eOS is LGBTQ-friendly and disagreeing with this does not entitle you to a refund
@ulveon @danirabbit This *should* be implicit. "I didn't know I was bigoted toward this creator" is no kind of excuse. At the same time, "Fine, this software is not for bigots, and we don't want you as a user" is kind of a powerful statement, too.

@danirabbit
Hear, hear!

Thank you for holding your values against the onslaught of hate and ignorance.

@danirabbit Refund Message: FIX YOUR HEART OR DIE
@danirabbit This is how we know you're much nicer than me. I say fuck 'em, give their money to a charity in their name and post the receipt.
@danirabbit I feel like you shouldโ€™ve kept their money, but a refund is probably the classier move. @elementary
@danirabbit wow, beautiful colors! And to be fair, i'll never judge people's opinion
@danirabbit
I'd take a look at it just for this, but I'm moving.away from systemd, and it's a safe bet anyone.who doesn't mention their init system is using the new.standard.
I don't know what's more unusual, that somebody bothered to ask for a refund, or the fact that there's a procedure to demand refunds from a non-profit foundation in the first place
@danirabbit monthly donation still going strong from over here! good riddance to them
@danirabbit Iโ€™m convinced that I should be donating to @elementary - link is https://elementary.io/get-involved#funding if anyone wants to join me
Get Involved with elementary OS

Thoughtful, capable, and ethical computing

@danirabbit well in that case I am extremely happy to give you money despite not being an elementaryOS user
@danirabbit I'm not even an Elementary user, but this makes me want to throw you a few bucks when I log on tomorrow. Please remain unapologetic about who builds useful things for whom.
@danirabbit The most queer & beautiful of all them distros. Thank you, Danielle!
@danirabbit Don't give it back to them please!
@danirabbit Without queer people, I suspect nothing resembling civilization would exist. It triggers certain folks to hear it, and honestly, good. Cope and seethe.
@danirabbit Question, out of the work done for elementary OS, what portion gets upstreamed and what portion is purely downstream / bespoke software ?
@Sobex this is extremely hard to quantify. We have commits in a number of freedesktop projects and specifications, in projects like portals and distinst and Flatpak builder GitHub actions, and in some cases we are the upstream to projects like XFCE shimmer icons and the Deepin WM is based on Gala IIRC. We do our best not to fork or distro patch software and to use existing libraries and contribute to those where possible, but overall Iโ€™d say the vast majority of commits are to our own projects
@danirabbit Making me so proud that elementary was my first linux install ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Keep being rad
@danirabbit I've made it clear in the past that not only was I attracted to elementary OS as a great operating system, but what really clinched it was these values. I've donated and bought merch and will continue to do so. For every one of those asking for refunds, there will be many more like me. Keep up the great work!
