It is surprisingly hard to express "the primary demographic for startup founders at the moment is nepobaby failsons" in a way that's appropriate for consumption by investors.

@iris_meredith 😂😂

nepobaby failsons

@shom I mean, am I *wrong*?

@iris_meredith spot on! LinkedIn version would read like

The primary demographic for startup founders are dynastic entrepreneurs with expertise and capital exclusively provided by titans of industry as a vote of confidence in increasingly more ambitious endeavors.

@shom @iris_meredith @mayintoronto s/more ambitious/dubious/
@darkuncle yes exactly, that's the LinkedIn translation.
@iris_meredith @mayintoronto
@iris_meredith @shom a truer word has never been spoken
@iris_meredith I suspect you hit the dual problems of a) they want to invest in *something* gods dammit and b) some of those nepobabies are *their* failsons gods dammit
@iris_meredith Are you suggesting to investors that, with a reasonable seed stake, you and they can extract money and valuables from these nepobaby failsons?
@clew I'm trying to persuade them to support affordable, high-density housing close to the city centre. With good public transport connections.

and explaining why this five dollar bill is on the sidewalk?

(nepobaby failsons don't understand where people need to live)

@iris_meredith

@iris_meredith "We call it ... Soylent Gold."
@iris_meredith I wonder if this has ever not been the main demographic for start-ups 🫠
@AimeeMaroux Oh, probably, but we could make it less so and I think it'd benefit everyone.
@iris_meredith Oh for sure! It would be nice if good ideas were not dependent on the potential to extract profit either.
@iris_meredith then what is the problem with this setup? If it's just ambitious start-up with no substance, then they will just burn their money, status quo breaks, they, you, both same now.
If it's a start up that actually works, they are no nepobabies, they are inventors. I don't think there is any problem with some being rich, and intelligent, or is there?
@Fxiz The issue is the negative space. How many worthwhile services do we not have because the only people who can actually try are the nepo babies?
@iris_meredith what kind of services are we talking about? Clubs, pubs or casinos? Because other kind of services are designed to be used by general public and get money out of them. If it's a service for general public and it's bad, we don't use it, they don't earn, they loose business, go broke. If it's a good service, we use it and no one need to care if it is from nepobabies.
And if it's a service for riches, they play with it themselves, no concern for general public as it's their money
