i like how in #esperanto FOSS licenses specifically are called "permesilo(j)", rather than "licenco(j)"

the former literally means "something that permits", which fits well, given that open-source licenses give the user extra rights, whereas proprietary EULAs usually take the user's existing rights away

@rnd «-il» means «tool»/«instrument» (in a bit of a broader sense than those English terms: a thing as a means to do something or to achieve a goal). I'd thus analyze «permes·il·o» not just as «something that permits» but more specifically as «tool for permitting / allowing» or «instrument for granting rights» or similar.
