β€œSwearing on the Constitution and the rule of law instead of some religious text? I consider this an absolute win actually.” - The Radical Centrist

@BrianJopek the day warrior sounds like something that rhymes with light bundt
@BrianJopek it should be a requirement.
@BrianJopek exactly what they are there to do, to uphold the constitution for EVERYONE. Makes sense.

@BrianJopek

This should be standard. This actually has meaning.

@BrianJopek
I just want people to keep their oaths for once, no matter what they swore in on. Rep Robert Garcia, one of the real battlers in the Dem House caucus swore in on a Superman comic book. He's actually upholding his oath so I'll take it.
@BrianJopek Whenever I have been made to swear on a bible, I consider it a Free Pass.

Democrat Mikie Sherrill just REFUSED to swear in as New Jersey Governor on the Bible... Instead, she chose a copy of the state constitution.

Unreal.

@BrianJopek As it should have been. Never understood having to use the bible. Religion and politics should never mingle.

@McWabbit @BrianJopek

Oaths of any kind are pretty stupid if you think about it. They only had meaning in the days of deep superstition. These days, it's just empty words.

You better do your job as stated in your contract. I'm sure the governor's position is clearly defined. What else is there? You'll either do your job or you won't, though for public leadership roles, I'd propose harsher penalties than 'won't get elected next time'.

@lxskllr @McWabbit @BrianJopek I liked an apocryphal story I heard about the ancient Assyrians.

Per the story, they held that people could not trust a government that didn't punish it's own.

In this story, a judge was caught taking bribes. when caught, he was flayed alive and his skin was used to re-upholster then judge's seat. His son was then appointed to the seat with the warning, "Remember always where you sit and how you got here."

Former Navy pilot Mikie Sherrill sworn in as New Jersey governor

Democrat Mikie Sherrill has been inaugurated as New Jersey's 57th governor. The four-term congresswoman and former Navy helicopter pilot is just the second woman to lead the state of nearly 9.5 million people. Democrats have now held the New Jersey governor's office for three consecutive terms, the first time in more than six decades a political party has done that. She swept to victory over her Donald Trump-endorsed GOP rival in part by pinning blame for high costs on the president’s tariffs.

@BrianJopek

i would swear on The Constitution too

all these asshole republicans swear on the bible and then lie, cheat, steal, and do all kinds of unconstitution things

republicans are assholes

@samiamsam @BrianJopek Not as if God is going to punish them. Religion is nothing but narcissism with a forged permission slip, and I think those narcissists know that. They just use the bible as a cloak for their evil.
@BrianJopek I do not but atheist game recognize atheist game
@BrianJopek I think its a good idea, a new approach. Whether, it makes any REAL difference is something else. These days God is just lip-service, and the Bible a formality. Its a changing trend.
@BrianJopek Good to hear. The US could do with a lot less religion.

@BrianJopek

Swearing-in on children's books is a bad idea anyway.

@GGMcBG @BrianJopek I'd gladly be sworn in on the Very hungry caterpillar though. (actually, as someone who was thaught to read mostly in Dutch I'd probably go with Pluk van de Petteflet. Our family copy has been read to pieces.)
@BrianJopek all are same untill they get power, no matter they oath of bible or constitution book 😊
