@markmccaughrean saw these one Christmas a couple of years ago in M&S, slightly unnerving 😬.

@doddington Finding these little blighters in the garden doesn't help 😬

It's the nymph of Issus coleoptratrus, which while sounding like a Hogwarts spell, is actually just a planthopper (Echte Käferzikade in German).

I'm kind of fascinated by them in truth, although seemingly incapable of getting a decent macro stack. They're very small but very chunky, so getting a good depth of field & decent resolution simultaneously is hard.

@markmccaughrean that is a rather nice looking chap, I have never seen one of those.
@doddington They should be around in your part of the world, but I didn't see any of the nymphs or adults last year, so maybe they're relatively uncommon.
@markmccaughrean perhaps I just need to look harder!
