There's a post goin' around about how Mastodon is an echo chamber that needs to let in more representation of AI voices instead of shitting on them.

Okay. So? Every social network on the planet is an echo chamber, of which at least two are right-wing echo chamber nazi bars, and every media outlet out there is beating themselves off to every fucking machine learning advancement/product there is. No matter how shitty it is, or how unethical its resource waste is for marginal gains.

You don't like it here? Don't get ass prints on the door on your way out, or in a slightly nicer tone, the Fediverse lets you run your own server and choose who to associate with, so you can, hypothetically create your own sloperator network, and what's more you don't even have to ask an AI to create the software to do so for you,, its already there. So, I don't know what else to say.

Maybe the Fediverse has its problems. Maybe we are an echo chamber. Maybe we can be more inclusive of diverse voices. But I'll also say, that this is the social network I'm most comfortable in, and I don't want to see it change for the worse. AI techbros have enough representation across literally every goddamn form of media and social network out there, so pardon me for saying: fuck off, I don't want it.

@da_667 Seems the post in question has been bravely removed
@z3r0fox I kinda figured. Coming into what's probably the most PH neutral social network and calling it shit because it doesn't have enough AI in it, when most of us vehemently dislike AI, and are forced to learn it, use it, or otherwise protect ourselves from it, was NEVER going to go well.
@z3r0fox to quote alt.sysadmin.recovery. This is the equivalent of leaving the safari jeep, and kicking the lions. +1 point for gusto, minus several thousand for common sense.

@da_667 @z3r0fox

... i must've been away from the monastery for too long, i don't recall that one

@EndlessMason @da_667 Maybe it's not even the Dare post I read about and is removed just guessing but whatever
@z3r0fox @da_667
The thread is a disaster to read from here 'cause my admins are a little anti-anti-ai so I got to do lots of "view original page"-type stuff to figure out what's going on

@da_667 I wish to wholeheartedly agree. I have deleted my accounts on Facebook and Twitter specifically to *get away* from all this crap.

It's already everywhere. I get bombarded with "AI" literally everywhere, every day. My phone nags me with it. Firefox nags me with it. Youtube is full of it. People at work talk about it. Teams on my work PC nags me with it. It gets forcibly shoved into literally everything.

Can we please have this ONE little corner of the net without it?

@stefanie I can certainly hope so, brother.
@da_667
sure nobody's stopping me posting, but nobody's forcing people to read my posts either and how is that fair literally unplayable devs pla fix

@da_667

is it an echo chamber if i only invited friends i like and trust to my bbq?

is it an echo chamber if the SF book club doesn't want to talk about soccer?

is it an echo chamber if my local pub doesn't want to play disco?

this seems like more "if you don't listen to me scream my opinions at you as long as i like, it's censorship".

@da_667 I never understood the whole online echo chamber criticism. Like do I live in an echo chamber by living a city?

What's next your preferred bar is now an echo chamber? I really wonder if the whole point is "if you don't have everyone on the platform how can I advertise to everyone"?

@ladytel @da_667 good echo-chamber analogy. My interpretation of echo chamber is when a group is _only_ getting their news about society/government through their own 'circle'. Then that group is prone to not share the same view of "reality" (however manipulated by media it might be, but at least the info is shared among peers) as the rest of society in the pub/city/country/world. I don't see it applicable to the fediverse per-se or any other social media platform in isolation.
@da_667 I was going to suggest the LLM bros start their own instance on slop dot ai, but someone really wants to cash in on objections to LLMs 😂
@da_667 yea... giving AI two thumbs down... :D

@da_667 honestly it seems very often 'be more inclusive of diverse opinions' tends to end up meaning 'let me hurt you and those around you' .. and dismissing doing that as just a 'different opinion' ..

.. atleast thats my personal experience here but what do i know 🤷‍♀️

like so often ive seen like "i *just* want to debate your right to exist and like autonomy and self-determination" how dare you dismiss what im saying!

@da_667
Why do we need to embrace AI? If they like AI ok, that is allowed in free countries. But if they have the right to embrace AI, we have the right not to like it. That is called democracy. Maybe they don't know that. Or they don't like democracy.
