getting back into the routine this week is brutal. I'm in charge of Sam's medication and care while Becka is back in the classroom with the chill'un.

Any of y'all responsible for caring for a loved one while working... props to you. this shit is hard.

and while I'm at it, I don't think I properly had the chance to say it, but if you're a medical professional out in the fediverse, or a nurse/aide you have my sincere thanks as well.
we act like cybersecurity is a shitshow, but life throws you guys haymakers too.

like literally. THAT ADVENTURE IN THE ER WAS A FUCKIN' NIGHT LET ME TELL YOU.

My nurse for the evening was a fuckin huge russian dude named Sergei. I HAD THE BEST FUCKING TIME ONE COULD HAVE WHILE DEALING WITH A LIFE THREATENING PRBLEM.

I heard Sergei and the other nurses in my wing had to throw down with a dude who refused to cooperate in the ER. some shit was going down. Meanwhile, I was trying to pee in a plastic bottle because they told me to.

and, guys, I shit you NOT. I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD. Sergei came to check vitals at like 3 in the morning. My BP cuff was acting up and giving me bad results that we both knew weren't right. and I hear him say under his breath, softly

blyat

at like 6 in the morning, sergei is prepping for shift change. they're doing the hand-off, same as one would do if you worked in a 24-hour SOC. You tell people what's up, what happened, and so on.

Beforehand, sergei had been through for vitals check. I asked for a cup of water. I was on an IV, and these were kidney problems, I was thirsty, so I thought I would help remove some of the potassium manually. He tells me "sure thing." I never got it, but I don't hold it against him.

Little while later, he's in the middle of shift-change handoff at the nurse's station within earshot and I hear him say in the heaviest Russian accent "148 demands water." and I was like "Shit Sergei, I know you had a rough night, I hope I wasn't asking for too much.'

@da_667 I hope things quiet down and you get better.
@pesky_warlock thank you! This was last week. Everything is fine now. I'm just sharing stories from my very brief time in the ER, and expressing my thanks the medical staff for all of the crazy shit they see on a given day.
@da_667 you peed in the bottle without turning it into a tribute to Nurgle and/or Khorne. You were absolutely his favourite patient that night.
@da_667 That's just a language thing. "demands" instead of "needs."
@da_667 actual factual laugh out loud toot there
@bosh nobody wants to be in the hospital, but holy shit, was the tea strong that night.
@da_667 everybody is fighting a secret war? there is a pretty big psych component that is easy to discount but the 'community' is pretty progressive, supportive generally when people are facing life or work issues, shit happens
