I look forward to the post capitalist days when I can go outside and enjoy the green shaded paths, and graze from the abundance on trees and bushes at will, watch all the colorful birds, and meet up at the local makerspace, skillshare, tool and appliance library, repair cafe, music, art studios & gallery and performance space, farmers market, coop greenhouse & solar powered food trucks in former parking lots, gardens, flea markets, etc. that took over a former mall.

A girl can dream.

A girl’s dream can come true!

Look what was just posted today in Portland!

@potterybyosa is this the place you spoke of? (Lloyd center)

It’s places like these that can create really vibrant creative ecosystems because of the freedom to create and share your works and collaborate and be in community.

In Portland, there's a post-apocalyptic wonderland. Can it be saved?

YouTube
@JoBlakely @potterybyosa super interesting, this is right up my street 👏 spaces like this do exist here and there, the challenge is real though.

@JoBlakely

A Dear One used to say, "Dream big dreams, then put your overalls on." It is a quote but don't know the origin.

May we all find/make/upcycle rugged solarpunk overalls!!!!

@BrambleBearSnoring @JoBlakely Not sponsored or anything, but as a curvy woman, overalls have been a challenge, but right now, Torrid has some overalls in a 1950s leopard print. They’re amazing. I accidentally got them too big, but that’s worked out ok, cause I’m usually wearing compression type yoga pants for my back when I’m working outside anyway, so I’m not flashing the wildlife.

Anyway, brief aside to say that we can have nice things. 🤣

@MissConstrue @JoBlakely

Good to know. Curvy, hard to fit myself.
Also dreaming of the Solarpunk Overalls I would like to make from thrift fabrics, upcycled thrift finds.

Imagine a mash-up of Thai fisherman pants, super drop waist festival pants, adjustable waist, apron top with adjustable straps, bio break fly of some sort for ease of weeing in the woods, lots of waterproof pockets, tool belt compatible. Solarpunk symbols, designs.

Sounds good to me! Mine will be more "Lunarpunk" as I wear a lot of black. 😉 @BrambleBearSnoring @MissConstrue @JoBlakely

Boro & Sashiko Overalls.
The Thai fisherman pants, lightweight using Korean Bojagi patchwork method of piecing fabric together.

@JoBlakely

I'll have what your having. With local herbs freely growing and available to sniff and flavour...

@lobster yes. And instead of lawn mowers on pathways we have goats…and goat cheese.

@JoBlakely

I knew there was a plan that made sense. I like goats and their cheese... and their tree climbing abilities. Urban goats would not put up any of the nonsense from street foxes...

You had me at post-capitalist and solarpunk -- but the goat cheese just sealed the deal, @JoBlakely !

@lobster

@DoomsdaysCW

That sounds like a great line for a solarpunk movie!

Takes place from today through 2030, shows steps, processes, relationships, challenges, stumbling blocks, progress, multiple perspectives and goals.

Made with solar energy. Distributed through indy network of soveren digital platforms and movie houses.

Local organic heritage popcorn available during showings.

@JoBlakely @lobster

@JoBlakely Plant paradise where there once was a parking lot?
@JoBlakely I'm up for building it!? I've been picking up litter this morning and I'm trying to get some wildflowers going too - pretty sure I remember reading about a gardening group up the road and a fix it club at the library - I gotta get around to visiting those soon!
@JoBlakely
Must dismantle billionaire class.
@mediocratese @JoBlakely by boycotting them with each day a step.
@solaris @mediocratese
I’m always reminded of Buckminster Fuller’s quote: “You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”
@JoBlakely @solaris
I love this idea and it makes infinite sense but we don’t have the necessary time to rebuild a new model.
@mediocratese @solaris
You don’t know how much time we have nor how long it will take. You cannot foresee the future of the world.
But you can see this moment, what is needed, and what is possible. You can see a path. But you want to stand still? The new models are being built all over the place. It’s a matter of learning from them and joining in or starting something yourself in small steps where you are.
There are thousands of actions we can take with little effort & most bring joy.

@mediocratese @solaris
I have a pinned thread on sortition. That’s a model that is worth discussing and citizens assemblies are growing.

It’s important to have a positive possible vision for everyone & share it, and it’s so easily shut down by cynicism and apathy, so discouraging people as if it’s pointless effort is hardly helpful or motivating.
It’s like the sign above the gates of hell ‘abandon hope all who enter here’ or the Borg ‘resistance is futile’.

@JoBlakely @solaris
I am really speaking about the extremely limited amount of time we have to ,hopefully, slow down the effects of collapsing earth’s systems. We don’t have a lot of time to halt the plague of the billionaire class.
@mediocratese @solaris
We can do both. They hoard and fight us so much not because they have real power, but because they know WE have the power, skills, knowledge, & truth. People have been brainwashed to depend on or scapegoat a proxy through Christianity & proxy politics rather than get involved. They lost that muscle, have high inertia, take a long time to get up to speed. It’s a white people problem. A patriarchy problem. An ignorant & privileged problem. We must energize the movement.
@JoBlakely @solaris
I’m with you. ✊🏼
@mediocratese @solaris no more fortune telling about what will be or how fast the earth can heal.
If you want to put out speculative fiction, then at least make it appealing, possible, and utopian.
@JoBlakely @solaris
I speak science.
Good bye. 👋🏼

@mediocratese @solaris
We need to convince people to make changes. To show what could be instead.
That’s what I’m trying to do.

You are not speaking science. You are speaking what happens if we do nothing. If we continue on this path. While not encouraging people to climb that hill.
Which renders your prophecy self-fulfilled.

@mediocratese

This is what I am saying expressed here. I hope you’ll listen to Rebecca Solnit if not me.

@JoBlakely We will build it together! 🤘 All of us.
@JoBlakely Let's hope we live long enough to see it.

@orionkidder
As we have less money we shop less, as those stores can’t make sales. As people learn to live without, they find other ways to make life beautiful, joyful, & entertaining. Values shift.

I think those chain stores need to go out of business. We need more personal, unique, informed, & curated service these days to buy less & better. Space might get more available then. Things may change.
The earth is going to be kicking our ass hard if we don’t demand better. It already is.

@JoBlakely I found this YouTuber, "Crime Pays But Botany Doesn't", and it's this hilarious botanist in Texas who goes around ranting about the stripmall hellscape, but also tours the yards of people who have killed their lawn and repopulated with native plants.

We don't have to wait to get this started!

@corbden @JoBlakely omg hahafayiu found them ! I literally lol at their videos
@JoBlakely this is basically what Portland, Oregon was like when I lived there 20 years ago. That is to say, it’s very possible!
@JoBlakely A beautiful future, thank you so much for sharing this among the terrible world news. 👏
@JoBlakely all within walking distance #SoMoteItBe
What a beautiful vision, @JoBlakely ! Tagging for #SolarPunkSunday! 🌞 💚
