Now seems like a good time to share the film “Persepolis.” If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it.

The animated film is an autobiographical story about a young woman coming of age during Iran’s revolution in the 70s.

Marjane Satrapi is an multi-disciplinary artist. Her art and storytelling is brilliant.

Y’all mentioned the books. Def good stuff. I just love the vibe of the film. And Marjane directed/wrote it, so it didn’t lose the integrity of the books.

So…I recommend both, actually. 🎉

@markwyner the graphic novel is excellent too
@redsad @markwyner came here to say the exact same, and just found out there’s a 2nd book too
@markwyner The books were amazing. I didn’t know they’d made a movie.
@MissConstrue they def were. I’m a fan of the vibe in the film. I liked both. You might check it out.
@markwyner such a great film!
@octothorpe right? On so many levels. The animation is so good, even beyond the story itself. Marjane did an amazing job with it.
@markwyner I'm halfway through and it's very good so far

@markwyner It might be a good time to re-watch it, too.

Great movie about a sad time.

@tshirtman yeah, I was like “hey, everyone, watch this movie.” I forgot to add it to my own queue for a fresh watch. It’s been a minute. So I’m gonna re-watch it, like you.
@markwyner I was about to go to bed, 😅 but today, yes.
@markwyner It started life as a HELL of a comic. One of the best ever made.
@markwyner the graphic novel is also excellent.
@markwyner I was assigned this for a film appreciation class I took at community college, and before researching what it was about I decided to watch it with my ultraconservative mother. She wasn't exactly a fan to say the least, but it definitely made an impression on me
@tarix29 oh, that’s rad. How cool to have this film show up as an assignment.
@markwyner A very good movie indeed although I found the graphic novels (2 books) even better 👍

@markwyner Yes, the right moment, let's justify the bombing.

That's a good movie but the timing is bad.

Why not about?
- The Revenant
- Letters from Iwo Jima
- Apocalypse Now
- Full Metal Jacket
- First Man
- Vice

@omar how exactly does this justify the bombing?

It’s the right moment because it humanizes the people of Iran. It connects us with them through art, which is an act of rebellion.

@markwyner The film and the books are great. But about the "good time": bombing civil targets (a war crime) by a fascist rogue regime that fights against the freedom of women in its own country, won't help women in Iran at all. Don't forget that the USA first bombed a school.
