I mean, there isn't really any natural law that says there can't be a #Wayland compositor that runs on #EGA hardware.

It would have the same chunky-to-planar-conversion overhead that complicated attempts to port #Doom to the #Amiga, but it's not impossible.

@argv_minus_one @GIMP Did anyone ever try to make X11 run on EGA hardware?

@vaporeon_ @argv_minus_one i doubt it. By the mid 1980s there were Unix ports to the 80286 and, late, 80386, that could run X, e.g. Interactive Systems Corp. (ISC), but they needed a higher-end graphics card.
