An American History Lesson: What Is American?

A recording from Omar Moore's live video

Omar’s Substack

@popcornreel Thank you, Omar, for the link to your videos on Substack. And thank you for all your writing here on Mastodon. You are always concise, honest, and on point.

Thanks for talking about Foner's lastest book: "Our Fragile Freedoms", too. I hadn't read it yet. I'm reading it now, and it's great.

The Political, the Personal and the Polemical: Eric Foner on Freedom

A student of historiography and the study of history, as well as history itself, Eric Foner would like yet another American Revolution, one which would fulfill the promise of Reconstruction when Blacks held public office and the nation made strides toward equality until a counterrevolution came along and installed Jim Crow.

CounterPunch.org

Jonah Raskin, on Counterpunch, says, "...Foner would like yet another American Revolution, one which would fulfill the promise of Reconstruction..."

I (like Foner) believe we need to have multiple MORE rounds of Reconstruction, more successfully. And different forms of reparations, to almost everyone. If we can stop affording senseless wars and genocides, we'll be able to start making up for them.

@popcornreel

@popcornreel Thanks, again, for all the author references in your videos. I've got to watch AGAIN, because I wasn't taking notes. I hadn't heard of many of the authors. This'll keep me busy for a long while.
