Jonah Raskin, on Counterpunch, says, "...Foner would like yet another American Revolution, one which would fulfill the promise of Reconstruction..."

I (like Foner) believe we need to have multiple MORE rounds of Reconstruction, more successfully. And different forms of reparations, to almost everyone. If we can stop affording senseless wars and genocides, we'll be able to start making up for them.

The Political, the Personal and the Polemical: Eric Foner on Freedom

A student of historiography and the study of history, as well as history itself, Eric Foner would like yet another American Revolution, one which would fulfill the promise of Reconstruction when Blacks held public office and the nation made strides toward equality until a counterrevolution came along and installed Jim Crow.

CounterPunch.org

"My own work emphasizes the continuing relevance of the #Reconstruction period to the world in which we live. In the past two generations, no era of #AmericanHistory has undergone a more complete revision of historical interpretation."

Congress has to get serious about the 14th Amendment. So does President Biden.

A New Year’s very special @[email protected] w/ a historical view. 3 of the country’s most prominent scholars--@[email protected] @[email protected] & #EricFoner-- discuss why this may be the most precarious time in US history. An unusual & important discussion. Link at https://bit.ly/HistoryTF
Special Year-End Episode: How Will We Go Down in History?

A special topical episode with 3 of the country’s most eminent historians & social critics–Eric Foner, Eddie Glaude, and Heather Cox Richardson. The group first discusses the degree to which our tempestuous period resembles prior flirtations with authoritarianism. We broaden the focus to those features of our democracy that expose us to the menaces of Trumpism and a critical examination of whether the yin & yang of our political system condemn us to repetitions of the struggles of recent years.
