It's the 1st Sunday of the month and so we celebrate #DigitalIndependance Day in Canada. What have you done this past month to secure your personal data? Did you exit X or flee Facebook? Did you #DeGoogle or switch to an #OpenSource software alternative?
Tell us what you accomplished and encourage others to take action. Start small and regain control over your data a little bit at a time.

In February I personally started transitioning away from my decades old GMail account. It's still a work in progress as I underestimated just how embedded Google is in my everyday online transactions. My family members still use Google apps so I'll always have some level of data security to deal with. But I'm working on it.
This past month I dumped Chrome and moved to a new private alternative - #Vivaldi and so far I'm happy with the choice.

@ElbowsUpforDigitalSovereignty reminds me … just disabled Chrome on my mobile.

i’m still chomped by Google, but I’m pushing the rock up the hill every day a little bit more.

@ElbowsUpforDigitalSovereignty A few months ago, I have closed my Gmail account.

I am self employed and the company I work with since almost one year with is pushing is using different Google services...

Until now I am able to avoid them, but if I want to continue to work with this company I will have to create a new Gmail account in a short future. šŸ™„

@adelinej @ElbowsUpforDigitalSovereignty Don't they provide accounts in some business plan? It's expected from users to create it personally?

If you're looking for a non-chromium based alyernative browser give Zen browser a go. Built on Firefox. Really nice.

#ZenBrowser

@mrclark @ElbowsUpforDigitalSovereignty OK, I installed it. I'll give it a try. Thanx
@mrclark @ElbowsUpforDigitalSovereignty I tried it but I like a menubar on top. I find it much easier to use. Oh, well.
