If there is no masculinity that is not an expression of patriarchy.........

If there is no such thing as non-toxic masculinity............

Then it stands to reason that the only moral/righteous gender is that of femininity, and it stands to reason that the only way for trans men to be good people is to detransition/never transition in the first place

And that, dear reader, is some TERF/TIRF bullshit.

Related.

*looks pointedly over at Talia Bhatt, who hosts a whole podcast with a whole detransitioned trans man*

I don't understand how more people aren't calling out how weird and exclusive this is???? Like when your transfeminism only has room for detransitioned trans men, it's literally TIRFism bc the only difference between this and classic TERFism is that (mostly nonBlack) trans women are trying to include themselves in the Cult Of True Womanhood.

(Nb4 someone takes me saying "the Cult Of True Womanhood" in the most bad faith way possible because they didn't start reading feminist theory until the past few years when they started their transition)

@so_treu i keep seeing so many people who i didn't think were TIRFS recommending Bhatt
@forestine it's really becoming a problem how her poison is being allowed to spread through these trans spaces with minimal pushback smh
@so_treu can't use tumblr for any reason, every space there is like that
@forestine @so_treu ah, tumblr…makes a sick sort of sense given how those spaces work. So many folks who are orphan elephants there and have no rooting in the history of transfeminist thought or activism. Blargh
@JoscelynTransient @forestine ugh and it's so frustrating bc so many of us spent so much time on Tumblr educating and making resources available to ppl, like we weren't just talking shitnl we were uploading articles, sharing quotes and links and this was before the rise of social media infotainment in the late 2010s. Sigh.
@so_treu reminded of this thread when i saw a tdov post by the pride org in GIMLI MANITOBA of all places, tiny tiny, posting a big graphic of a quote attributed to Bhatt's tirf book. what is going ON??
@forestine it's BAD, like it's REALLY BAD for us right now

@forestine @so_treu first time hearing about these asshats. These girls need to read some feminist writing by someone who isn’t white woman that hates trans and queer people. Like, just start with basic ideas like hegemonic and subjugated masculinities, and subaltern masculinities and all these radfem arguments fall the fuck apart.

It also speaks to me of transfems who didn’t actually engage with feminism before transition and do the work of dealing with toxic masculinity back when the world was still trying to foist masculinity on them. I’m thankful I did, because it clarified a lot of shit when it was time to nurture and cultivate my femininity

(note: since it wasn’t clear to some: not calling the TIRF in question a white woman. I don’t know her, but apparently she’s South Asian. I spcifically was referring above to the lineage of thought and “feminism” that she’s pulling from, which is people who were largely white women who were uncomfortable with or hated trans people and queerness.)

@JoscelynTransient @forestine @so_treu OMG the white trans femmes who had zero thought for what feminism meant before coming out are the absolute fucking worst. Like “I’m here now and since I’m so oppressed you should just be quiet and let me drive.”
This entire thread is so healing 2 read. I was seriously feeling like the internet was a lost cause, re: widespread tirfism cuz like y'all said, it's folks who didn't engage with feminism b4 transitioning & think they're supreme authority on the topic bc they're white. I'm always losing my fucking remaining sanity on them mfs
@FinalGirl @JoscelynTransient @forestine @so_treu
@FinalGirl I've always described them as saying, like "hey, you guys, I've just discovered this new thing? It's called oppression! And I have it!" @JoscelynTransient @forestine @so_treu
@JoscelynTransient @forestine calling a brown trans woman from India a "white woman that hates trans and queer people" is wild to see, especially coming from a white person.
@elexia @JoscelynTransient right, important to note that bhatt's politics (the original subject of this thread) do not make her white or undo her transness

@forestine @elexia oops, sorry, I genuinely don’t know this person. I was more reacting to just what was shared and how I’ve seen this stuff most often among white trans women. Thanks for calling me out and letting me know, I’ll add a note.

And the “hates trans and queer people” is because even if the person is trans, hating on other trans and queer people or cozying up to TERFs who hate us is still that.

@forestine @elexia oh, actually, realizing I didn’t call her white (didn’t think I did). I was referring to the people that TIRFs are engaging with: radfems who were mostly white cis women who hated trans people and queerness.

It’s actually kind of surprising that an Indian woman would be so into that, given South Asian feminists are critiquing these same people. Like, they need to read Teju and engage with the subaltern, desperately.

@JoscelynTransient @forestine gonna need you to back up the claim that she's "cozying up to TERFs" cause the little bit we read of her she did exactly the opposite.

@elexia to be clear: I don’t know anything about Bhatt and am really not trying to make claims about her. I would suggest going back and reading my original reply. I wasn’t really making any claims about Bhatt because I don’t know her. I didn’t claim she was white and I didn’t make specific claims about her.

What I was responding to was the discussion of TIRFs (Trans-inclusive radfems) in general (who I called “these asshats”). The intellectual lineage they are pulling from is one that specifically third wave feminism critiqued for centering white womanhood, enabled racism, and fostered Janice Raymond and the other TERFs. And by saying cozying up to TERFs, I might be a bit hyperbolic. I don’t follow that community much, but adopting big chunks of their ideology and arguing that trans men should detransition because masculinity is inherently evil is, just in my personal opinion, similar to cozying up to them.

If you think I’m wrong, I’m open to discussion on the topic. I don’t have the spoons to chase down this stuff, so I’m open to others sharing things and being educated. What makes you think Bhatt shouldn’t be described that way? What about the larger TIRF space? 🙂

@so_treu TIL about TIRFs, and now I’m just a little more tired. 😂

@Wraithe

pls what is a TIRF 😭 my search results are useless

I know we're not talking about Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence Microscopy

@so_treu

@ProcessParsnip @Wraithe LMAOOOO TIRFs are "trans inclusive radical feminsts." I call them that bc they replicate bar for bar all of the shitty feminism that TERFs ascribe to, save for when it comes to trans women.
@so_treu @ProcessParsnip Yeah it’s amazing how many philosophical knots people are willing to go through to treat OTHER people shittily when “just be normal to other people” was right there.

@so_treu wait...people moving on this kinda time T-T ?

but yeah you see it all the time, its quite sad on so many levels and it bothers me how often people just ignore the kinda genuine harm this causes on the people in their lives and innocent bystanders *cough* transmascs/men and non binary folk *cough*

@so_treu
I'd argue that there is no such this ng as a moral gender but among those that exist, faggot is the only one with a right to do so.
@ranja HELL THE FUCK YEAH
