This morning I drove us to the leisure centre in another town to go swimming, and parked in a bay in the car park.

Then when we got back we went to some supermarket car parks and practised more bay parking there which was pretty successful.

I appreciate these are small things, but every milestone is exciting and worth celebrating to me right now so 🎉

@thegiddystitcher well done, parking in bays is my least favourite part of driving.

@fak It's very different to everything else I've learned so far!

But it was making things a bit awkward in terms of practise. "Yeah I can drive us to this place, but I can't actually stop and park when we get there" 😆

@thegiddystitcher yay for normalizing some of it and good idea to practice parking

@jenni I have no idea why instructors leave parking and stuff until last, it's such an important thing to know how to do!

Hopefully it'll help me start to get a feel for where the back of the car is, too. That would be a handy skill...

@thegiddystitcher here it gets added pretty early usually with easier ones first and then working up to more tricky situations since you’ll have to show parking during the practical test.

And yeah getting a feel for how long the car is and what optic you have with which distance is something you get with time. It can be handy for your learning to get out Look at the distance and then get back in and see how much of the hood and lights you see of the car behind to get a feel that way.

@jenni Good tip, thanks. I actually did a bit of getting out to look at things today, trying to train my brain to stop thinking I'm wonky in a bay when it's actually fine 🤷‍♀️

One step at a time, but I am definitely seeing progress!

@thegiddystitcher Honing those technical skills - well done!!
