And he’s done this while being unapologetically pro working people, anti genocide, & pro justice. His approval rating rose from +38 to +48. Corporate Democrats would be wise to learn from him…if they weren’t so addicted to centrism and losing.

@QasimRashid must be some sort of a mystery that when you give people hope & dignity and actually work to make the changes to better their lives (unlike say Obama was bailing the banks out right off the bat), somehow magically lots of people don't do stupid things out of desperation and despair.

@QasimRashid The weather in NYC also sucked a load for about half of the quarter. Which reminds me of when I was living in Houston 30+ years ago, and the city recorded no felonies in a 24-hour period and it was big news, because there was a massive cold snap. So, you know, people who might commit crimes also stay home when the weather is bad.

Meaning the weather could have nudged the figures down a bit. It's important not to cherry pick data to suit your position, which is what the other lot do a lot. On a zig zag graph, you can prove _both_ cases just by carefully selecting a zig or a zag. And as it's bad practice to boost unsupported or tainted data, even though this is hopeful, it might not be the best example to share, as it's more vulnerable to attack.

@ianp5a But according to @QasimRashid it wasn't just "a bit". It was "fewest shootings & murders IN HISTORY", compared to the detractor-predicted outcome of rising crime.

I have no idea if these figures are correct or not, but @roadskater didn't question them, just said that "the weather was bad", which I'm sure has happened in NYC before.

Cherry-picking data is bad, but "carefully selecting a zig or a zag" seems like an exaggeration in this case.

Sure, im not suggesting this was a classic zig zag case, just explaining their technique.
And it's great the figures are way down. But it'll likely be dismissed as weather related anyway. Maybe let some more time pass to prove this is real progress , so it's harder to argue with.

@ianp5a In one sense, we should definitely let more time pass. But in another sense, it's important to note early that NYC didn't crumble to bits because Mamdani was elected, and that's important for current politics.

One of the points @QasimRashid is making is that other Democrats should notice this, and that is time sensitive because of primary and fall election campaigns.

"We'll see" is often good, but it's unfortunately also a delay tactic.
