I've noticed more and more tools are defaulting to OpenStreetMap.
It's kind of awesome.
@ohmu @openstreetmap If they would then also support OSM by donating, that would be even better.

Depends on where you live. My Dutch Apple Map shows both names.

@blogdiva @openstreetmap @CoMaps

Same with Google Maps - the Dutch version prefers “Golf van Mexico” and has “Golf van Amerika” in parentheses.

Oui inacceptable ces deux entreprises sont au dessous de tout et prouve : leur irrespect pour la géographie, et leur asservissement inconditionnel à leur dictateur et au marché.... ce sont des techno-fasciste ! ...

@jipexu @diverdutch @blogdiva @openstreetmap @CoMaps

Eh, non… they adapt to local markets …

@stegwee @jipexu @blogdiva @openstreetmap @CoMaps Which they should not do in cases like this.

@stegwee @blogdiva @openstreetmap @CoMaps

same in the UK, both names are shown with the Trump name only in brackets, and Bing Maps (!) only shows "Gulf of Mexico"

@stegwee @blogdiva @openstreetmap @CoMaps

TomTom also just shows "Gulf of Mexico" (took a while to get my navi app to display the area, as you wouldn't normally try to drive there and the app isn't intended for marine navigation, at first it tried to send me to an Indian restaurant in West London 😁 )

@blogdiva @openstreetmap @CoMaps Google just goes with whatever is easier for them. If they fear losing money over a name change, they'll adapt. But only for the affected market. Most other countries still have it with its real name
@blogdiva @openstreetmap @CoMaps @DemocracyMattersALot In Canada, both Apple Maps and Google Maps say Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America). 🤔
@blogdiva @openstreetmap @CoMaps It must be for America only. In Spain, I see both names (the new one in parentheses).
@blogdiva @openstreetmap @CoMaps Goddamnit. I've been using bingmaps for decades, and I just noticed it's the same there. 🤬
@blogdiva I use @CoMaps as well. My husband does not, and lately, the navigation has been insane. I can only guess Google Maps is experiencing a serious case of artificial "intelligence" decay. @openstreetmap @CoMaps
@blogdiva @openstreetmap @CoMaps @DemocracyMattersALot for routing they work really good. But there is no traffic info nor announced road work info. And that sometimes suck and make me go back to Apple maps (never Google Maps anymore)
