I am conflicted. I read #projecthailmary when it came out and found it kind of dumb. I’ve since learned problematic things about Andy Weir that made me even less excited about the film. But we already had tickets for a rare full-family movie date thing. Sigh.

It was a goddamn delight. Pure Friday night Hollywood eye candy perfectly-tuned to hit all the feels. Dammit.

@c_dan4th Sometimes asshole people make amazing art, and I think it's pretty ok to feel conflicted about that.

@aphowell @irilyth It’s not entirely different people though. Weir is an exec producer or some such on the movie and is definitely benefitting financially. And it’s done by Amazon Studios which has it’s own issues.

@c_dan4th @irilyth That's true. For me, it's more on the Steve Mnuchin end of the spectrum than J. K. Rowling, but I respect a decision to treat Weir's name and the studio as radioactive.
