@dumdumdelish @superbetsy It's for tram tracks. They are a hazard to bikes as the wheel gets stuck in the groove.
It's not a very good sign though. Looks like there is no front wheel on the bike, which does indeed make it a bit dangerous.
@superbetsy Crossing tracks improperly may lead to involuntary Superman. Be warned.
But for reals that’s a GREAT sign.
@superbetsy It's a warning there's train/streetcar/something tracks in the pavement whose gaps are wide enough to catch a bike tire (if you hit it wrong and it wrenches your front tire sideways).
This happened to my wife one time many years ago: she flew off and landed helmet first (thank goodness for helmets!) and got a bunch of scrapes and a really nasty black eye. For a week or so every time we were in public - starting with the nurses at the ER - I got the worst looks from people making unfortunate assumptions about the cause of said black eye. But she was ok.
Trying to use your bike as a pogo stick may result in you taking a nap in mid-air.
Park your bike at this bike rack, for the levitation event.
Oof!
Instant 40 year old memory of train tracks running down middle of Beach Street near the wharf in Santa Cruz, California.
Those grooves were very good at grabbing a mountain bike tire and pitching the rider off their bike.
Same vibe as this one. Objects the road that will mess up your bike and yourself 😕
Not sure where the first sign is, but it's not the EU.
Can't say I've ever come across that format of road signage.
i'm a cyclist, and i find these signs to be utterly hilarious
even though i have ridden over train tracks in extremely snowy weather and gone down like a sack of bricks
(i know this sign is about getting your wheel caught, not slippery when wet, just sayin i've busted my ass on tracks before) -- still hilarious
@superbetsy I do not recognize the sign from anywhere at all but SOMEHOW I recognize the very specific fall it's depicting.
There is a tram laid out over the street pavement. The front wheel gets stuck in the tram tracks. The wheel is stuck really tough. Enough to twist the bike handle and rip it off of your hands and spin it violently against your elbows or ribs. Finally the bike topples with that twist and you fall face first to the concrete, your arms too numb to raise in front of you.
⚠️ DO NOT ride without front wheel
