I edited this image to express what it feels like to have double exceptionality, that is, the concurrence of giftedness and autism.
When people ask me why, being so intelligent, I can't do many things that others can... This is the explanation.

#autism #autistic #actuallyautistic #gifted #giftedness #neurodivergent

@cesarpose I think that's a really great clarification!

@cesarpose I don't see them as separate. I am autistic, which brings me useful qualities and capabilities, as well as difficulties and disadvantages.

So for me the boulder is the latter, the incline would be life, and the man would need to have a jetpack helping him (representing the useful qualities and capabilities). And the whole image would be autism.

@doggle @cesarpose
So you're saying the figure in the image shouldn't be pushing the boulder up the cliff face, they should be climbing the cliff face with the boulder strapped to their waist, weighing them down, adding a greater burden to their efforts?
@AlexLloyd
Forget the image. I'm saying it doesn't make sense to me to separate autism as purely negative, and that I am my autistic self pluses, minuses and all.

@doggle @cesarpose
Sorry. Is that what the original post was suggesting?! Autism as purely negative?! I didn't get that. I thought it was about being highly intelligent and autistic, and how one affects the other.

We're different to neurotypical folk in some ways and that can be perceived as a disadvantage in certain circumstances but ultimately we are who we are with our unique strengths and challenges.

I don't consider a difference between neurodivergent and neurotypical folk in that we all vary in our level of intellect and capabilities.

Being autistic can be an advantage or disadvantage. Being highly intelligent can be an advantage or disadvantage. Neither one is exclusively and entirely one or the other.

Sorry if I've completely misunderstood the entire point of this thread. Have a great Easter weekend. Take care of yourself. 🙂♾️

@AlexLloyd I read the boulder being labelled as autism and separate from the person as different from how I see this, as described in my reply.

You take care too 👍

@doggle @cesarpose
Yea, I guess I must have misunderstood your reply then. All the best.
