the death of the notification led on smartphones is something i am still very upset about
the cynic in me thinks that maybe, you could remove the notification led to increase how addictive the rectangle is. after all, always-on screens became a thing. and big tech still had learned nothing and forces new, even more grotesque things down our throats.
perhaps a notification led in 2026 is not going to be helpful anyways.
no longer is your phone a tool to communicate to people with. it's a tool for advertisers to communicate to you.
i think the led would just always be on now ;;
i was previously incredibly fond of my pebble after the death of the notification led. i have the notifications, on my wrist? yes please. after all, i often missed my phone doing things if it is not in my pocket.
but after i acquired a different smartwatch, i never got around to connecting it to my phone. the lack of notifications is almost refreshing. it has been over a year and a bit, and i still do not have my watch to buzz when something happens. only it buzzes when the hour changes.
and i do not feel a need to connect it now either.
@0x47df After my Pebble, I got a FitBit watch. That was enough to make me "upgrade" to a Casio F-91W, and that is just soooo refreshing!
@0x47df Not always on, but likely blinking ever more complex patterns to let you know which apps have notifications, and how many notifications you have waiting for you... 😱

@0x47df me too, alongside 3,5mm Jack, real Dual-SIM and microSD slot.

- I won't switch to a phone that doesn't have those!

@F3715H @0x47df don't forget #IrDA & #IR-Blaster in general…

@F3715H @0x47df I rock an old Samsung XCover Pro. It doesn't need a case and even has removable batteries.

@poleguy @0x47df yeah, tool-free swappable batteries are good…

@F3715H @0x47df microSD slots are gone? 😕

How do they extend storage these days?

@basxto @0x47df overcharge people at purchase (overpriced internal eMMC) and/or post-purchase (shitty cloud storage)…

@basxto
by selling you a new phone…

capitalism is soooo efficient, they say…

@F3715H @0x47df

@0x47df Wait … new phones don’t have that anymore? Not that I ever used it in a meaningful way because I keep everything unread it and basically blinks in all colors of the rainbow all the time
