@ChrisJagged Stories that include a romantic subplot just to "tick that box" is immeasurably annoying to me. It stinks of decisions being made for the wrong reasons.
I'm not against romance in stories, but it should feel like it actually belongs there. The relationship should provide some kind of insight or advance the plot or... just literally anything outside of simply being. If all it adds is some sexual tension and unnecessary friction, I don't want it.
@sylphrin @ChrisJagged I’m in agreement with you here. A shoehorned romance subplot which pulls me away from the main story has always annoyed it. I don’t care if you’re going to kiss or not, get me back to the main plot!
I never plot a story with romance between any of the characters. But I find through the writing if characters want to form a relationship which weaves and works with the main plot. TBH, I find platonic relationships much more fun and interesting to write.
